Do you think any criminals get gun tips here?

I don't really see that many BGs using THR to improve their firearm knowledge. In this regard, I think they can be compared to many LEOs. A gun is part of the equipment they use and they are interested only in learning about that particular weapon.

Many LEOs know nothing about firearms other than the one actually issued to them. They have no interest in firearms overall, it's just part of the job. They have no idea there is an actual difference between an AR and a M16. Their knowledge of other guns is based on what they have heard. I remember one episode of Cops in which this veteran LEO picked up an SKS, called in an AK-47 and proceeded to explain how it was so deadly, it could shoot through a telephone pole and kill someone.

The average street criminal probably thinks the same way. They are not going to spend hours or days going through the information here, on other websites or in books and magazines, learning the pros and cons of assorted firearms, bullet weights and expansion, barrel length, etc. Their choice in guns will most likely be from either what guns they can actually get their hands on or what guns they consider "cool" from movies or media propaganda.

Besides, lets say the answer is yes. Then what?

Honest folks shouldn't get together in public to talk about firearms? We should be constrained based on what criminals _might_ do?

Uuuuh...no. I didn't imply any of those things. Did someone else indicate that we should be constrained and I missed it? In fact I said there's nothing we can do about it but it was just something I thought about.

I remember a 'Dumb Crook" article from several years ago when some BG tried to shoot an LEO with a .44 after he had been cornered. He pulled the trigger but the gun did not discharge. After he was subdued, the LEOs opened the gun and found two .22LR cartridges jammed in each cylinder.

You know you've found a criminal who hangs out at THR when:
  1. You get into an argument with a mugger over whether his 165gr fmj or your 147gr jhp has a better chance of a one-shot stop.
  2. You confront a home invader and get into an argument over whether the 2nd Amendment protects an individual's right to nuclear weapons.
  3. You confront a home invader with a S&W 626 and the goblin starts complaining about the Agreement.
    [/list=1]...

SKS and AK 7.62 with Kengs 550 rd cans of ammo will definately go through a pole.

Sks is not an ak but pole idea is valid and then some. Hardened steel rails had melted holes throgh it like butter at 50 yds.

My 308 will do the same thing quite frequently, not hunting loads mind you.

Guess a few here just like to dispute things.

I stole a pack of gum once when I was about 4, so yes, criminals do get gun tips here.

:neener: :D

Seriously, if any criminal did log on here, imagine what he would see: a bunch of law-abiding citizens who carry a multitude of firearms, knives, pepper spray, batons, etc., who are aware of their environment, and are generally pretty proficient with their self-defense tools and all too ready to use them. (I do NOT mean that in a bad way, as if to imply we're trigger-happy.)

Agreement? What?

Anyhoo, I wouldn't say criminals really get tips from here. Most probably don't even know about the place.

I, too, took a piece of gum when I was 3 or 4. After we had driven a few miles, my mom discovered it.

We drove back so I could confess and apologize.

At least you were that smart.

As soon as we got into the car in the parking lot, I pulled out my stolen booty.

Mom didn't take too kindly to that, marched me back in and made me apologise too.

John, until just now when I discovered that your name is John, I thought you were a woman. Jane or something.... Go figure... *shrug*

My Mom made me take the gum back, too. Stood there and prodded me until _I_ confessed.

As to smart crooks; I thought they had all gotten elected or Civil Serpent jobs long ago. (The ones who hadn't snookered the Board and stockholders into paying them way too much for running the firm into the ground)

Firearms make pretty good items to steal.

IMNSHO, crooks and goblins hang out here to gather information about WHAT to steal, and WHERE to find it and WHEN would be the best time,,,,,,,not HOW to do it.

What if they do?

So what?

It's just a discussion topic. No action was proposed so please keep the snotty comments and rolleyes to yourself as it's more trollish than it is constructive. If you don't care about it then why even post in this thread?

As to finding out who owns what and where they live, I think there's almost certainly one group of criminals who look here for info- the ones with badges.

Sadly, this simple, important, and potentially life changing lesson in honesty seems a lot less available today.

It seems to me that unless you know the shopkeeper, this is a very risky thing to do. All you need is a managerial drone mindlessly executing the corporate manual of arms, and taking literally the sign that says that all shoplifters will be prosecuted, and behold! Your child is fed to the wolves.

I seem to remember a kinder, gentler time, and I'm only 36, damnit!

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

Orthonym:

Bet you don't call em [ LE ] criminals to their face now do you?

Easy to rant and call LE criminals here, same people probably wet themselves when they are approached by LE, no?

Having been an LE, I resent your generalized remarks here regarding LE's as criminals. Oh, I see, we are criminals but you are a saint. Sorry, I forgot to kneel before you before posting.

Not that we can do anything about it if true but do you think that any criminals/mobsters come here to get tips on what weapons they might choose to commit crimes?

I doubt it. Most criminals who are caught aren't that bright, and the ones who would be smart enough to come here are probably smart enough to figure out that information on their own....

However, if a large number of criminals are found to possess carbon-fiber banjos.... :uhoh:

I think that its mostly the gun nuts that somehow find the TFL/THR collective.

Now as far as criminals researching what guns they are using to commit crimes...I highly doubt it but anything is possible.

BTW

You know you've found a criminal who hangs out at THR when:

You confront a home invader with a S&W 626 and the goblin starts complaining about the Agreement.

Also ad your know you've found a criminal that hangs out too much on the gun forums when you start arguing about what to pack in your SHTF bag.
