Yep, that gun has been used and more than once.

The seller called me from Tennessee a little while ago. He said he received two 617’s from a wholesaler that he was told were new in the box. He did say he used prior sale pictures for the listing and never opened the box to check, I’ll say its on him.
He said he will pay shipping back and cancel the sale since the wasn’t what he thought it was. I think Im going to check the gun out in person tomorrow, if its not too bad I will ask him to knock a bunch of $$ off the sale price and call it even. If he says no, back it goes on his dime.
Thanks for confirming what I suspected, I’ll post again when I get a response.
Stay safe.

Sounds like the seller if full of it and knew he was trying to pull a fast one. If you decide to send it back be sure to demand he refund any shipping you paid also. When it's all said and done how about letting us know the name of the seller so we can be sure and avoid his listings.

I got one like that once.
The seller claimed it was LNIB, but had been used as a display.
It looked about like the one Rio got.
I spoke to the seller again today. I said if he would refund $250 to my CC off the final price it would be roughly the price of a used one and I would call it good. He said he couldn’t do that and he wants the gun back and will issue a full refund. I said that was fine, he needed to contact my FFL and send them a label for shipping back to him.I have a new 617. The satin finish does go in different directions. I have fired around 40 shells in mine and the turn line doesn’t look much different than that one. If the gun was for sale in a storefront the turn line could be from people handling it. The screw is suspicious. It shouldn’t leave the manufacturer that way but I wouldn’t say it could never happen. You can always call S&W with a serial number and get a manufacture date on it. Did the Seller have good feedback?
