I think ammo is becoming more available and... a little less expensive. I was just at our local Cabelas and they had piles of stuff that you couldn't get two months agao. They had several hundred boxes of 380 ammo including Herters, Aguila, Magtech, Fiocchi, Remington and Winchester. Prices are coming down too. As the stockpiles get higher they are lowering the prices. I saw a lot of sales over the last two weeks. Once supplies catch up with , then surpass demand the prices should start to come down , gradually. I think we might be at that point.:) Are you guys seeing the same thing? Don't let the fact that you still can't buy it at Wal-mart fool you. Everyone knows that they have the lowest prices so when it is available it is grabbed up. Couple that with the fact that most of us are in Wal-mart at least once or twice a week and we swing by the ammo case just in case, well you get the picture.

Our local gun shop (thieves) were selling blazer 9mm for 24.99 per 50 and now have them for 16.99 in the past couple weeks. they dropped the WWB 100rd packs from 39.99 to 29.99. powder and primers are still ridiculous and there are no other local sources(49.99 per 1k small pistol):fire:

I'm starting to see more ammo too, but the prices haven't changed much here. I'll be heading over to Cabelas in a week or two to see though. All the 357 MAG I can find is still really limited & expensive.

One of my dealers told me he just received a notice that Remington ammo prices are going up......no big deal to me because I don't buy that brand too often but if that is the case I'm sure all others will follow

ROAD TRIP which store?????

Certainly would not know it for the ammo supply here in Yuma. I have not seen any rimfire in any of our 4 local wallyworld stores in over a year.

The Dick's aound here was crazy a week ago trying to charge 58.99 for 100 rds of Remington UMC jhps in .40s&w. No wonder they had so many boxesof it for sale still. All local gun shops have ammo in stock for that same reason: Ridiculously high prices that cause few people to buy any. Wal Mart 's been the only option and that's IF they have anything in stock.

The shops that are overpriced probably aren't doing much in the way of resupply. Eventually, this should allow Walmart and others with resonable prices to catch up *can't believe I'm defending Walmart).

My walmart the other day had a few boxes of 9 AND 45....I'd occasionally been able to catch a 9, but the 45's I haven't seen for ages. They're still selling out fast, but at least they're coming in.

My wally world had 100 round 9mm packs of WWB, 25, 380, and 45 cal the other day. I bought two boxes of the 9mm. If I have to have it I just go to Larry's Pistol and Pawn. They have everything.

you guys are proving my point about Wal-mart

They have the cheapest prices so they can't catch up. Even when places like Cabelas and Dick's get it in their prices are pretty high. People hold off buying it unless they really need it. As their stock builds up and supplies become more regular, they start having sales and eventually the price will come down. It probably won't go back to where it was a year ago but it should come down a bit then level off. I am going by Cabelas later Today so I will see if it is flying off the shelves. The day I posted this they had had most of the stuff in stock for a week.

Huntsman

That would be a heck of a road trip. I live in Maine. Just for reference I will tell you the prices of what I remember.

Herters 380 FMJ $16.99/50 Tons in stock
Winchester 380 FMJ $18.99/50 Lots in stock
Remington 380 FMJ $18.99/50 getting low
Aguila JHP $22.99/50 plenty

Several brands of 40 S&W FMJ around the $15/$16/50 mark.
Federal 180 JHP HST white box $22.99 plenty
Lots of other reasonably priced stuff

Fiochho 223 40 and 50 grain V-max $20/50:)
Russian 7.62X39 $4.49/20 lots in stock

So yes, I think things are beginning to level out.

Around here they can't give ammo away. Sales everywhere after all the gouging. The economy is not improving and I see LOTS of used guns on the racks. People liquidating to pay the bills. Lots of talk about inflation, but we will see massive deflation for all non-essentials soon.

I love it. All the guys who camped out at Wal-Mart early in the morning to buy up all the .22LR so they could re-sell it at gun shows are left holding the bag.

I know one of him. He was complaining about having to sell at a loss. I just quietly laughed and walked away. He's got a room full of guns that he hasn't even shot, that he could afford to buy just because, and he had to be a part of keeping kids from being able to go shooting with their Dads, to make literally a few dollars.

I'm a capitalist who doesn't see any problem with somebody making a buck, but I'm also someone who believes in taking a kid shooting. So it's fun to watch someone squirm as he tries to unload a few crates of ammo before it goes down in price even more.

The local Gander mountain has Ammo all varieties.. (Harrisburg) ..Because there prices are very high..Wall Mart has no pistol ammo (and there are 4 within a 40 mole radius) Bass pro has no pistol ammo ..They have been out for at least 8 months.. These places do get pistol ammo in ..But as soon as they do someone buys it all..

Thanks for the heads up.

I am in Maine too, Waterboro to be exact. And i have been dying for some more 9mm for the range. I am down to about 200 rounds of FMJ and one box of carry ammo. Ill have to hit Scarborough tomorrow

There it is! More ammo, same ridiculously high prices, including Gander selling 20 9mm hollowpoints for $60.00!

I was in the gun store business for 22 yrs. I closed them down two years ago just as the recession was getting a good hold on the economy. Yes some of the small business's do in fact gouge. However the big distributors started doubling their prices which caused me not purchase so after my reasonable priced ammo sold out I was unable to replace stock for resale. Soon after the Russian 7.62 X 39 that cost $82.00 a case five or more cases free shipping went to $197.00 a case and no free shipping I just couldn't afford to purchase. So sometimes what looks like gouging is actually the manufactures and distributors. Hope they all get what's coming to them.

Reminds me of what my dad told me about what happend after WWII. He said that since there was a shortage for cars after the war that dealers were selling cars that should have been scraped for insane prices. After going through that he did not buy a car from a dealer for decades. He said they made enough money during those few years after the war that they did not need his business.
