So here it is Nov. 8th and I can't believe what I'm reading and NO, it's not about the Dems.

I can't believe how fast people on the board are falling to pieces! All of this doom and gloom and end of the world crap! I expected more from you people, I don't think I've read one word about fighting back.:(

I hate to say it but the gun owners in Cali are always more upbeat then what I'm reading here today. C'mon, stop laying there licking your wounds and start planning for the fight!:cuss:

I'm not too concerned about folks being down in the dumps today. It's only natural to be disappointed.

Give it a few weeks, and most people will pull themselves back up and renew the fight.

We also need to look at this election in a historical context. The political situation is not the worst it's ever been...certainly not in my 43 year lifetime. And 2008 is not really that far away either.

Shawn, At least we still got Arnold, and got McPhearson,& McClintock.Too bad Parrish,Mountjoy, and Pooch didn't make it.Things are looking up for Cali.

No doom and gloom here. The Repubs didn't get a slap on the wrist, they got a slap in the face!

The Repubs came out as a spineless version of the Dems. Do you remember? Where was the presidential veto about McCain/Feingold? Where was the backing pressure to get judicial appointees on the bench? (the repubs didn't even use a filibuster against former ACLU lawyer Ruth Bader Ginsburg - they let her pass without a hummm...). Where was an effort for securing our borders for nearly 6 years? Where was a serious effort to deal with ILLEGAL ALIENS? Why was a "Patriot Act" pushed without doing the first logical measure: secure the borders? Where was the outrage of the "Financial Conservatives" in the GOP about the largest spending budget, ever?

I think a lot of conservatives are really fed up with this kind of "Conservatism" that they even voted Dem for protest or just stayed at home (there is no alternative to Repubs/Dems).

This is a great chance for the GOP to go back to their long dismissed roots: Conservatism! If they don't, we may have Hillary as next president.

Every country deserves the government they have!

Gunstores nationwide are probably enjoying all the extra business they're going to get this week. Things will calm down soon enough.

If and when a new AWB bill receives committee approvals and gets sent to the floor of both houses for a vote, then you'll really seen an uproar. Hopefully, the Dems have bigger fish to fry right now than gun control. But if they increase their control over Congress in '08 and/or win the White House (horror of horrors!), I'm sure gun control legislation will quickly work its way to the top of the agenda.

Stay tuned, folks. The fight isn't lost, it's just beginning!

You seen it much worse in some forums than this one. It was needed though. They have the president with the power to lock up anyone he wanted, put them through a secret military tribunal and no access to the supreme court. They had rubber stamped a whole bunch of new executive powers and the way it was going was rather dangerous with no oversight whatsoever. A little bit of oversight is never a bad thing.

We also seen now the replacement of more stable members in the government. We seen Rumsfeld kicked out, Dick Cheney overruled and a bunch of changes that would actually improve the government and bring in new blood away from the neocons to more old time conservatives.

"One RINO leading a bunch of serious moonbats, including Jerry Brown."

Heaven help us.

In a democracy, the people get the government they deserve. They voted for or against it or didn't vote at all but that's what they got. The good news is that so far the people of America have survived every government which they have elected and lived to vote again. This holds true no matter which 'side' they supported. I think this is a good thing.

I think RobW has it. The Republicans did this to themselves
.

No, we did it to ourselves -- because we are certainly going to pay the price. Brace yourself for the "arsenal license" to own more than a couple of guns. Brace yourself for a federal law setting aside all the state shall-issue laws. Brace yourself for federal gun registration.

I hope it was worth it, just to teach the GOP a lesson.

agree and disagree

I see that we did this to ourselves I agree but I honestly dont think this will effect gun rights much at all. The Anti's might try harder but they will still loose.

I'm rather optimistic. I'm almost glad that the Dems took a slight lead. I would rather the American people make a mistake on this election, than the next one. If history hold true, the Nancy and crews true colors will show between now and then.

Yes it will affect gun rights.

I think this election will energize the anti-gun Dems and the gun control lobbies, believing that they now have a mandate.

Sarah Brady is smiling today. :barf:

They're already trying.......

Ihonestly don't think this will effect gun rights much at all.

Senator Kennedy, Governor-Elect Patrick, Other Advocates Of Tougher Gun Laws Sweep Key Massachusetts Races

Boston, MA - Deval Patrick, who made support for common sense gun laws a cornerstone of his campaign, won a resounding victory in the Massachusetts Governor’s race. In addition, Martha Coakley was victorious in the race for the state’s Attorney General and supporters of stronger gun laws swept the U.S. Senate and Congressional races here.

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and its network of Massachusetts Million Mom March Chapters, in conjunction with the Massachusetts Against Trafficking Handguns (MATH) Coalition, supported the candidates that swept the top races in the state including Patrick, U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy, Attorney General-Elect Martha Coakley and all ten of the state’s seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“In this election, the gun issue was in play, gun violence prevention groups won while the gun pushers lost, and there is now a shift in momentum on the issue of common sense gun restrictions,” said Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence.

Republican Gubernatorial candidate Kerry Healey and Attorney General candidate Larry Frisoli, were both endorsed by the NRA and touted their endorsements thinking it would help them statewide. “Yesterday, some candidates discovered that having the support of the gun pushers does not help with voters who want safer neighborhoods,” Helmke said. “We look forward to working with the Patrick administration and the new Attorney General to strengthen Massachusetts’s gun laws and get illegal guns off the streets.”

“We are very pleased that the overwhelming majority of the citizens of this state rejected the gun lobby and elected champions of gun violence prevention. Deval Patrick and Martha Coakley understand what the victims of gun violence go through, and they know what we need to do to stop the flow of illegal guns to criminals,” said Nancy Robinson, spokesperson for the MATH Coalition.

I'm just PO'ed because in my state, we just lost our best shot at right-to-carry legislation for a long time. We almost had it, and with any other governor we would have gotten it already.

But actually, it would just aggravate me to get back into it immediately. Wouldn't do much good right now, so I'm just going to relax and take it easy for a while.

Most folks who know me say I am always "doom and gloom"...:scrutiny: (see sig..)
As for this election,it went pretty much as I expected. To put it in a historical perspective look at what happened to LBJ...messed up war means unhappy voters.Add the spineless RINO factor and we have the results today. Some of us have been around long enough to remember plenty of bad past administrations.Let's see if this little B....slap to the repubs gets the message through.

I see that we did this to ourselves I agree but I honestly dont think this will effect gun rights much at all. The Anti's might try harder but they will still loose.

We are now in a ball game where it's one strike and out for us -- and they get as many strikes as they want.

Doyle = No CCW. I'm utterly livid right now.

On the national level, though - screw the GOP. They've managed to drop the ball on everything I care about (immigration, fiscal responsibility) while fighting like rabid badgers for issues that are, in my view, wholly stupid and not worth the political capital (The gays are coming! The gays are coming!).

Come home, Republicans, and all will be forgiven.

Do you really believe the GOP got the right message?

I know many of us were disappointed by the lack of action or misdirection of the Republican party, especialyl in the Senate and some in the Whitehouse. Most people I know that did not support Republicans this time aorund and were not die-hard Dems anyway, did so because the Repubs were not conservative enough.

However, I am concerned that this sweep by the Dems will only convince the remaining Repubs that they were too conservative and they need to be more like the Dems.

Since the Senate and President were already ready to pass "comprehensive" immigration bills, I believe we will see nearly limitless illegal alien amnesty and open borders by June next year.

All CCW progress is likely at a dead stop and may even get rolled back. Or, rather than attacking CCW laws they will go after the guns. No guns makes CCW irrelevant.

Also remember that Bush was ready to sign a renewal of the AWB. And that the AWB was only passed with the serious help and leadership of Repubs, especially Dole. It was a Republican controlled Congress that passed the AWB for Clinton to sign. I am sure the Dems will return the favor of giving a Repub president Bush a AWB renewal bill to sign and this time it will be much more draconian than the first. As much as I hate to say it the next six months may be the last opportunity ever to buy magazines over 10 rounds, or worse to even own them. Since the new Speaker of the House comes from California, look for their laws to be a model of ones introduced at the national level.

Also, we should expect tax increases, especially estate tax, high income brrackets, etc. Big reduction in Defense spending before 2008 elections. Absolutely no more consideration of drilling ohhshore, in ANWR, or coal technologies. Hope you like making plastics from the wind!

The big question is: Will we become the Peoples Republic of America before we become the North American Union, or vice versa?

In a democracy
Cut the Democracy crap! :banghead:

We are a Constitutional Republic. The powers to be want you to believe we are a democracy whose other name is MOB RULES.

Our forefathers emphatically stated we are not a democracy for that reason.

But thay are just a bunch of old dead white men. :cuss:

I a little more hopeful about this. I watched John McCain speak about the pending losses, and I think that the Republican leadership may be listening to the right people now. (I know we can't trust him regarding guns, he was speaking about reducing the federal budget, and other matters)

The other bit of harkening news were reports that the majority of Rep. seats lost were lost to conservative(pro gun even) Dems. That Joe Leibermann won was a refreshing bit of sanity. Maybe the loonies haven't really taken over the bin after all....

Time will tell, but I will say that in my near future shopping list, EBR's are taking precedent now....

All CCW progress is likely at a dead stop and may even get rolled back.

Yup. Rather than progress, we'll fight to keep the status quo, at best.

Those who think the GOP didn't do anything for RKBA are mistaken. By keeping the issue neutral, they allowed for progress in the states. Federalism, you know? It was working, at least in a few areas. Not enough, though.
