New York Reload? Git a rope!
To revisit the "New York reload" for a moment, let's remember that Texas Rangers carried two Colts as far back as the 1830s. Being a Texian, with family here since the land grant days, I reckon my second and occasional third revolvers are Texas reloads.
(Yes I spelled "Texian" right!)
Of course, I say this in good humor, as I have tremendous respect for the late, Great Jim Cirillo and Mas Ayoob, who cooperatively brought the term "New York Reload" into the vocabulary of modern gunfighting. I attended a seminar taught by Mas Ayoob and Ray Chapman in the mid-1980's, have read most of Mas' writing since the early 1980's, and was blessed to meet Jim Cirillo in person, along with Mas again, along with many other top trainers and writers at the Snubby Summit in 2005. (This was a one-time event, but some of the instructors involved still appear at various tactical conferences to this day. Jim
Cirillo, unfortunately, passed away in a traffic collision before I got a chance to
learn from him in person again.)
To be clear, I always carry at least one reload of spare rounds, independent of how many handguns I may have on or about my person. If there is time, I plan to keep all of my firearms loaded.
Really, Speed Strips are so compact, there is little reason to carry just one, anyway. I generally start with two of them. And, no, Speed Strips are not very fast for a complete reload, which should probably be discussed in a thread of it's own.
