This is an example of a light (5.7 pounds empty) AR-15. It might be considered an alternative to the Kel Tec SU-16. Does anyone have experience with the Panther Lite? I am considering it for my first AR-15.

Thanks,

I like the DPMS rifles I've shot, but as to the panther lite being a good value I don't know. I mean it doesn't even have a forward assist or ejection port cover. I think its an issue of personal taste and opinion on that. I'd personally spend a little more for an A3/M4 type carbine.

Perhaps you are thinking of the Lo-Pro Classic? The DPMS website states that the Panther Lite has dust cover, shell deflector, and forward assist.

I have shot the DPMS Light 16 and it was a great firing gun. My friend bought one and it has been 100% reliable. I may pick one up.

I will be picking up a SU16 as a car/ BUG out long gun. Folding is a great feature to have in this case. If you don't need the feature then the DPMS is perfect. They are from MN and I have talked to them alot at local gun shows and they stand by their product with a lifetime warrenty.

I have a lite 16, and could not be more happy with it. I have shot about 6K rounds through it, and never has a single malfuntion. The rifle will eat any ammo i put through it, and hold a very acceptable 2 inch group at 100 yards. I would recomend the lite 16 to anyone.
