Guys I am having issues finding something to store my AR-15, 870 shotgun, and preferable a decent amount of mags etc in.

It needs to fit under our bed, have straps on it so I can take it places via motorcycle on my back, and be relatively sturdy.

I am about to pull the trigger on this, which will work if the shotgun is broken down.

but man I wish there was something a tad better.

Here are my measurements :)

AR-15 = 34 inches
AR upper broken down= 25 inches (AR lower is smaller)
26 inch remington 870= 44 inches, or 35 inches with sidefolding stock.

my 10/22 is 42 inches long, and it would be NICE to fit it in there, but not required. also with the stock detached it is 28 inches long.

So my thoughts are, get that Maxpedition duffel, which does have all the features I want, break the shotgun down, the 26 inch barrel will fit, the AR will fit broken down, and the 10/22 wont really.

Am I missing something obvious? Is there some solution you guys use for gun transport / backpackish carry?

I dont see myself trucking 3 gun cases around, those long skinny ones you see at walmart on a bike. I would also like it to look a little less "scary" if you know what I mean.

I appreciate any input you guys may have.

oh also, is there anything milsurp that I might be missing? some alice pack or P-54 rig thats larger than normal? thanks

You could try something like a guitar case… you may have to modify it to hold things securely, but it will not look like a gun case or too out of place.

guitar case would work with a little handy work, try a soft gig bag. gig bags sometimes have straps like a back pack too. besides guitars and guns sorta are hand and hand anyways.

dude protec makes a double guitar/bass gigbag, holds two guitars. looks like it would work back pack straps google protec gig bag double

wow talk about thinking outside the box... I am going to check out those guitar gig bags right now. thanks guys.

Something that you can run into is that a few guns and ammo gets heavy really quick, and most bags are not designed for the load. My range bag is an orange tool bag by Rigid. Very heavy duty, does not supprise anyone if it is heavy, and nobody is the wiser about what is inside.

They come in several sizes, I kept the one that came with their biggest combo kit. To get the bag just look on Ebay or Craigslist.

Skateboard bags, hockey bags, tennis bags, baseball bags, snowboard bags, all will work if you don't like the other designs, just sew in some velcro straps to secure the weapons maybe even some padded foam to seperate or break up rifle shape if it's just nylon and the added padding is a plus too.

And there are still more specialty bags. A trombone gig bag might be about the right size for the broken down rifles & still might fit the .22. Plus it has at least two separate compartments.

IIRC, AR-15.com had a few articles on making your own "stealth carrier" for an AR a while back.

They used a Sears or Lowe's 27 inch tool box, some 2 and 3 inch layers of foam, with cut outs to hold an A2 or an M4gery broken down with space for three magazines. One version I saw still held the top tray of the tool box with some loose tools and rags in it, so even if you opened it it didn't look suspicious.

A few generic car stickers on the box and some greasy thumbprints and dirty rags inside and you have a "Q gun case" that even the most suspicious county mountie would probably ignore in the back of your truck.

Not something anyone would notice anybody even carrying around with them.

On the other hand, a 60 plus year old with a gig bag or a trombone bag might look a bit out of place in some quarters.

Your Ruger 10/22 can also be broken down by merely loosening and removing the front band and unscrewing the main action screw. The barrel band can be reinstalled in the stock and the action screw can be rethreaded into the action to keep them from getting lost. I presume you carry at least a minimal tool kit with you?

I have been wrestling with this same issue. I have an AR, a tactical Remington 870 and a Ruger 10/22 with a folding stock. These constitute my bug-out weapons, along with a Glock 19, a 1911 and a Walther P22. I know this is a tall order, but even so, I will be leaving a few beloved weapons at home in the safe.

Anyway, I did not want to spend a fortune, but I needed something durable. I finally settled on, appropriately enough, a Bug-Out Bag that I found on the NRA website for $39.95. Here's the link. http://www.nrastore.com/nra/Product.aspx?productid=SA 22201. It's blue and made of a heavy-duty material. It lacks padding, but I will just wrap the long guns in blankets and put the pistols in pistol rugs that I got from MidwayUSA for cheap, or in holsters. The ammo is the problem, and I have a smaller case for it. Hope this helps.-

I think guitar case was suggested earlier.. soft sided gig bags work nicely and they don't have to be guitar bags... keyboard bags etc. also I've never gotten any odd looks from just the rectangular soft sided gun cases. been around an apartment situation for a while toting stuff in and out in one of those. people have seen me around with a guitar case before and no one thinks twice about it. although i did have one guy that wanted to see my guitar.... lol
