What exactly is the effort? As far as I can tell, this enormous emotional outburst and righteous outrage has resulted in...

a petition?

Seriously, if that's all you can milk a well publicized tragedy and group psychology for, then you are dealing with the most inert people in the world!

Which is strange, considering how motivated their soccer hooligans are.

Now, let's think about this. Their big solution to the problem, the way they want to stop this from happening again, is for everyone to post "guns off the streets" on the internet.

Yeah. Because there's no strict gun control in the UK. And talking about it on the internet will help.

This isn't so much an argument for bearing your own arms, but rather a study in how sad gun control really is. Gun control means that innocent people like Rhys are just as bad or worse off in many situations, and worse yet it becomes a rallying cry for people who just want to feel better instead of actually doing something. Even with such clear evidence presented to their face that it doesn't work at all, they'd rather cling to their belief in gun control rather than face facts like an adult because believing in gun control makes them feel good, and facing facts is scary.

The silver lining here is that at least somebody over there has the sense to realize catching the criminal is relevant, but the crux of the matter is, getting the criminal off the streets will keep this from happening again. The gun honestly had nothing to do with it.

This is the perfect illustration that gun control does exactly what I claim it does: it weakens the stance of law abiding people and strengthens and emboldens the criminal.

And really even though this happened in the UK, the same attitude and response happens everywhere in the world.

I live a few miles from Liverpool.

As far as I can tell, most people are pleased that we have been disarmed and are not even aware that this has happened, or what the consequences of this are.

Guns in England?

I didn't know that there were any guns in England.

The part s that bother me most is the responce of the police:

1) we should use it as something to help us get better

2)What we need to do now is concentrate on stopping the supply of guns

3)I would ask you to face the truth and hand yourself in to police

4)I urge you please for the sake of Rhys and his family to come and tell us what happened. Doing nothing is not an option

Now I have sypathy for anyone who gets guned down but the police response is shocking. USE THIS ----TURN YOUSELF IN --what the ****?
What world does this guy live in. You don't need to USE THIS as a reason to get guns off the street. They already passed laws makeing gun possession illegal for eveyone. What other law can you make?
And I can't think that hearing a cop saying TURN YOURSELF IN will ever work.
Isn't England one of those places that has cameras looking over every square in of the land? Guess they can USE THIS to make sure they are watching everyone all the time.
What a country!:barf:
