Enough about bears, how about cougars?

A majority of the posts detailing individuals who saw the creatures would seem to contradict that. They aren't invincible, just stealthy and fast. Once you understand their operating procedure though, you're that farther ahead. Humans are erratic in their behavior, while animals generally aren't. Take steps to counter their SOP, and use your brain. It's your most lethal weapon, and you can concealed carry it 24/7, without restriction.

Well, Clay, do what you want, but although I like mountain lion meat, when it comes to eating possum ... just deal me out! :D

I vote for this as the quote of the week!;)

I believe I've laughed more through this thread than any yet. When this one runs its course perhaps I'll start one about possums.

You obviously are unaware of the number of possum related deaths every year. Next, I assuming you will be giggling at our local chupacabre---

lmao. I dont watch much TV, and have never heard of this show, but somehow I think this isn't related to wildlife...

The show stars Cortney Cox. I'd imagine any life with her would be wild!

Cougars are lighter built and not as tough as a bear, but they're MUCH more dangerous, as you've been finding out with local sightings. Bears tend to be nonagressive and will generally either avoid contact or show little interest in humans.

Cougars will track and sometimes attack people. And they're so silent the victim usually isn't aware of their presence until he feels the bite or claws on his back.

That said, they're not nearly as burly as a bear and a lot easier to bring down. A guy I know was attacked last spring while walking his dog in a remote area. He was carrying a 357 and was able to dispatch the big cat w/o much trouble. But it shook him up a lot. He said the cat was initially after his dog, but went for him when it became aware of his presence. :uhoh:

one stalked me and my friend in andrews nc. we kept hearing a rustling of leaves behind us (it was november, so they were thick, and it was dry.) we figured it was just some coyotes, we were going to camp out instead of coming back the next day. it took off when we lit a fire, but after we knew what it was we weren't going to sleep out there. from what i hear, it's become quite notorious for carrying people's pets back up to that holler on the mountain.
