Gee thanks, another rifle i want to try now.....

Honestly any of the rifles listed can be a "forever" rifle, its up to the user to decide. Heck i know a guy whos one and only rifle is a savage 24 in .22mag/20ga.
Personally I havent found my forever rifle, closest Ive come is my Abolt which i bought brand new for 500.
Even as we get into the more expensive rifles, they are just nicer variations of the same designs we see in the "bargain" level (or more correctly the cheap rifles are usually the variations).

10 year warranty on the rifle and the 1/4 inch accuracy.

So... a Howa or a Howa, eh?

Same action and I’m pretty sure the same trigger now. The standard Synthetic Vanguards have longer barrels than the standard Howa 1500, also better stocks unless something has changed. I’ve dealt with CS from both companies and to me Weatherby is much better. I also tend to like longer barrels, maybe I’m unconsciously compensating.

So to many people they are the same rifle. To me, they are not.

I have had 4 Vanguards and the last two didn't do it for me. One was a Creedmoor. The triggers were not up to my standards and they did not shoot as good as my Bergara or my American Predator. I have even had Mossberg Patriots that had better triggers and accuracy. I have a new Vanguard Sporter and the Jury is still on it.

I believe Howa makes the Vanguards for Weatherby...I got my hands on a Thompson Compass today at a gun shop..I was disappointed in the action, very rough and the safety is truly a piece of junk. I think I'll pass on the Compass.

The safety on mine out of the box was stiff and loosened up with 5 minutes of working and using a touch of CLP. I wouldn’t describe the action as rough; it is loose with the bolt fully to the rear but nothing crunchy. Again, bought at under $200 so worth it to me.

I bought my Savage Axis II with Accu trigger, in 6.5 Creedmoor, with a heavy barrel and camouflage stock, complete with a Bushnell 4 x 12 x 44 scope mounted on it, at Walmart for $398 plus tax back in November 2017. They still have them in stock for the same price. It's a lot of gun for the money.

I am going to buy a Compass. Thanks for selling me Skylerbone. I didn't start the post, but have been following. The same questions have been bugging me as the originator of the postings. The input has been pretty good. I already have the caliber in a Savage. Its a little heavy for field work. So something light, fairly accurate and inexpensive is in order.

Lol i think hes talking about the sauer.....i just checked and one of those would cost me 800ish out here, not in the cards for me any time soon.

I’ve been looking at them for months and really want to pull the trigger but I think an AR for the girlfriend is what I’ve decided on. I could swing both but then I’d be short on the optics budget.

I did follow through and get a Compass. Your fault Skylerbone. Took it out the first time today. Mounted a Vortex 3x9x40 scope with a DNZ mount. Sighted in pretty quickly at 25 yards. I then moved out to 200 yards. According to my calculator 25 and 200 are about the same. Didn't have time to put targets up since the range was being shared today. So I shot at a 12 x 12 metal target a 200 yards. Ding, ding, ding until it got boring. The action is not as smooth as some others, but the rifle was impressive at its price point.

Sweet! Glad your liking it so far.

I still have the want to try one bouncing around the back of my head.

A friend of mine just bought a Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor. I was fairly impressed.

However, if I was looking for an entry-level bolt action in 6.5 Creedmoor, it would be hard for me to pass up one of the inexpensive Remington 700 ADLs. Looking at gun.deals, there are 700 ADLs at the $400 price point. Anything built on a 700 action get's the nod from me. They tend to work out of the box, and they are great "lifetime" rifles, too. Over time, easy to replace stocks, triggers, even barrels. If you're not a tinkerer, maybe something else; but if you like to tinker and tune, the 700 ADL is hard to beat.
