That's very nice of them. I'm a Life Member, there's a Gander Mt. around here, and I'm in the market for a couple things they probably have in stock. Gonna check it out this week; thanks for posting.

Actually Gander sells most items at manufacturers suggested retail price, where the manufacturer lists one.

Sorry that you don't like them providing jobs for people.

I resigned my NRA membership at the same time as former President George Bush (Bush '41) when the NRA chose to characterize Federal Agents in the lawful performance of their duty as "jackbooted thugs".

Until I (I was a Federal Agent at the time) and the families of those agents who lost their lives in the lawful performance of their duties receive an apology from the NRA, I will willingly forego any discount offered by Gander Mountain or anyone else who seeks to profit from the NRA's celebration of fallen government agents.

I will shop elsewhere.

Includes guns but the last time I was there, I felt like the Maytag repairman. Literally no one there but me. Hard bodied fishing lures @ $7.95. Ouch! And this was before Christmas.

Thank you.

Nice offer. That should take their price down to just a hair over 110% of retail on most items.

Exactly. I haven't been into one of their stores in a decade. Buy from the LGS and tip the owner, you'll still save money.

Only a fool pays MSRP, especially at a big box store. I honestly don't know how they're still in business.

Yes, but who wants to pay MSRP? People who discount also provide jobs.

Does anyone actually pay MSRP anymore? I sure don't, and that includes cars.

We've had this discussion several times, but here we go again. Gander provides a lot of jobs, they maintain a huge stock, on hand, that you can hold, most of their employees are eligible for benefits like 401k plans and health insurance plans. So their overheads are much higher than a local mom and pop shop.

Many people make in excess of $250,000 per year so call it $120/hour and up. I personally know the CEO's and VP operations for a couple of oil operators and services companies that shop at Gander, because they can go in, check out 5-6 items and try them in hand, then leave with what they want. That saves a huge amount of time for them. And they make way over $250k per year, actually over $1mm per year. Time is a much more important commodity than money to a lot of people. When you are trying to decide which $3,000 gun you want what difference does it make if you can save $50, or even $100 when it takes up a lot more of your time.

Are they fools? How much do you make a year compared to them? Still want to call the fools?

Many companies offer such benefits to full time employees, yet remain competitive in the market. What is Gander's malfunction?

So your stance is that because wealthy people don't care about paying more than they have to (a false premise, BTW), we "regular folks" shouldn't either? Time is money when it's time out of your earning hours. How many of us take time off work to go shopping at sporting goods stores? If you do, your priorities are seriously messed up. Shopping for leisure items should be done during leisure time. That's just common sense.

Are they fools? How much do you make a year compared to them? Still want to call the fools?

The income disparities are irrelevant. Outside of wanting to support certain businesses for specific reasons, anyone who pays more than they have to for an item is, by definition, a fool. Also, self-made wealthy folks didn't get that way by being cavalier about spending money.

You can say the same about Cabela's, yet Cabela's has better pricing and better stock in most areas. $40 a lb for powder is a bit excessive, Cabela's has the same powder for $10 or more less.

Yep, I only go into the local Gander (and suffer the terrible customer service) to try guns my LGS doesn't have. Then I'll go back to my LGS to buy. Our local Gander does have reasonable prices on Hornady XTP bullets though, so I occasionally pick up a few boxes for reloading.

All I can say about that is the few people I see in our local Gander (Wausau, WI) are unaware of the smaller shops less than 30 miles away that will charge hundreds less than Gander, heck the local Fleet Farm will beat most of their prices by $100 on mid range hand guns, I mean over $800 for a Ruger SR1911? You kidding me? I paid just over $600 at the local shop, that's pretty freaking bad.

If you own a gun you should be an NRA member.Do I agree with them 100% of the time?...heck no. But they are our representative voice in Washington. Life member since 1992:thumbup::thumbup:

And I am waiting for the Clintons and Obama to apologize for impugning all law abiding gun owners with their proposals, comments, EOs and policies. But I know it ain't gonna happen. So get over it. Furthermore, some Federal Agents did act like jackbooted thugs in that time period, I am sure and I presume you did not.

Takes less time to push a few keys and order a gun from Bud's than it takes waiting for service in a store.

In the immortal words of Leona Helmsley, "only the little people pay taxes". No matter how much you make, nobody wants to overpay for anything.
