Extreme Shock Ammo.

None of the info given in the links points to any definitive answer that the ammo is good or bad since their are no real comparison between ES and other brands of ammo using established scientific methods. Basically its all second hand info, or unscientific tests. I guess the answer is not to be found on this site. Thanks anyway.

If you carry this stuff and actually have to use it in a defensive situation to shoot someone, you better be ready for an even more extensive court room battle than you will get if you didnt use it. A good prosecuting attorney will eat you alive! For carry use, buy good American made ammo. If in doubt as to what to carry in your gun, carry what your local law enforcement officers carry. Ammo with names like Extreme Shock, Terminator, etc. is not only asking for trouble in a justified shoot, but they are also junk!

Use only good factory ammo in your guns and leave the gimic stuff alone.

What renegade said. So what if it's super-duper incredibly powerful anti-terrorist awesomeness? Who cares? Do you really want to pay those prices, when there are proven, widely-used, cheaper alternatives already out there? It's not like shooters aren't already under enough pressure from anti's for having "high-powered weapons". Why give them any more chance to attack us, and even more, why give them that chance by using a ridiculous product that doesn't even perform to the standards of everyday HP ammo?

I don't get it.

As other have stated there is no reason to buy this ammo unless it works as advertised which is impossible to prove because of a lack of real world subjective testing using established testing methods. There are too many excellent choices on the market to choose from which cost a lot less than Ex Shocker. Maybe it is as good as they advertise but until it is proven this ammo out preforms everything else on the market, it just another expensive ammo with gimmicky advertising.

Have any of the people who are bashing the ammo, read the article about the one shot kill of the boar. That seems to show that it does work.

Dude, it is a bullet. Lot's of bullets "work" on boars. That doesn't mean it is anything special.

This brings up a good point. What I always liked about the stuff was the claim of being combat proven. On closer reading, combat proven apparently meant that a bunch of good old boys went hog hunting and shot a Russian boar that died...and that was what they called combat proven.

I'd place my bet on it just being some over hyped, over priced ammo marketed to mall ninjas.

Either we have a lot of mall ninjas on the board or the marketing goes beyond that target group as this brand of ammo keeps being brought up over and over again with those who are hopeful that it is some savior ammo. In six months, there will be another thread about like this one, complete with those wanting the ammo to be great, those thinking it is, and those who think it is garbage hype.

Funny thing, if it is so good for terrorists and such, why isn't it being back by the various law enforcement groups who have used it for terrorists? Maybe it is because there aren't any who use it as issue ammo? Maybe it is because it has never been used against terrorists, as if terrorists are somehow a different animal from regular people when it comes to biology and bleeding out.

Ballistic Gelatin is an established testing method.

I won't be carrying something with penetration that shallow.
There probably aren't real world shooting results because nobody trusts the stuff enough to carry it.
Maybe we can pool together $500 to buy JE223 a mag full of that ammo and have him test it :p

LOL!
You may have to put a few cinder blocks in front of it to slow it down enough. I hear it'll punch through an APC and destroy everything in a 50 meter radius on the other side.

Marketing BS (is that redundant?)

How come none of this stuff has shown up on and 'independent' ammo test site?

No one has ever gone broke undrestimating the gulibility of the American public?

Ignorance can be cured, but stupid is forever - -

Sorry for being a jackass in bring this topic up. I guess all I wanted is a simple answer and what I get in return are arrogant remarks saying I am a fool to question people's authority on the subject. High road my ass.

The general thrust of peoples replies to this thread seem to be that eXtreme shock is not recommended. Their comments and jokes seem to be directed at this ammo, not the original poster or their question.

I can do the independent testing, in ballistic gelatin, if that is the answer that you are looking for.

Bro, nobody was targetting you with their comments. Just the silly ammo. We've all pointed and laughed at this ammo so many times in the past that I guess it's easy to lose sight of the fact that not everybody is familiar with it. I appologize if my comments offended you. That certainly wasn't my intentions.

JE223,

For all of our safety, please make sure that you do this test somewhere in the middle of the Sahara desert, no less than four miles beneath the surface of the earth (no more than five miles beneath the surface because these rounds could contain enough power to set off a chain reaction in the earth's core that would wipe out existence as we know it).

Anyone remember Schumaker-Levy? That was just the test shots from the first batch of ES, they were immediately deemed too weak. I've heard that this is the only ammunition powerful enough to make Chuck Norris flinch. Just be careful!!!

Mall ninja marketing tends to bring out the smart-aleck in people, especially such eXtreme a case as this. (the tip jar's on the right side of the stage, folks! I'll be here all day!) No doubt a prosecutor would have a field day with somebody who used it, even if it was a good shoot. My opinion? I'd leave ES alone. If I wanted to hunt hogs (or anything else) with a handgun, I'd get a magnum revolver or 10mm autoloader.

Snarky remarks about eXtreme Shock are developing a tradition of their own.

I just got the most recent issue of SWAT magazine. One of the advertisers has a background resembling ES's, with the ninjas removed, and states something along the lines of "We don't sell lightning bolts, explosions or diamond plate, so why would we put them in our ads?".

...or something like that - I'm going by memory.

Who knows? Maybe it'll be the next internet phenomenon.
All your fang face are belong to us.

Still, it's noteworthy that ES has managed to make Birdman's old advertising appear sedate by comparison. But they've got nothng on the video.

Dead pigs don't impress me, and they certainly don't convince me that a cartridge is worth anything. Growing up on the farm, I killed many pigs, cows and bulls with a .22lr, usually with one shot to the head. I also killed a big ol' sow one time with a .22 short. By the logic that Extreme Shock is using, a .22lr is therefore a capable and trustworthy round to use on big game. Obviously, we all know thats not true. The founder of Guns and Ammo, Robert Petersen, was reputed to have killed a bear with a .22 Hornet. My dad actually witnessed someone killing a deer with a .22 Hornet. Again, I don't think you will find any respected expert who will conclude that the .22 Hornet is a wonder round. What they will conclude, universally, is that SHOT PLACEMENT is king. A boar could have just as easily been kilt by a plain ol' WWB ball round if the placement is right.

Aside from not buying into that claim, I guess my thing with this is that I just don't understand why someone would buy it as opposed to Hydra-shoks or something. I am forced to agree that only mall ninjas would see the value in this

Does the government carry it? Also, 4" of ballistic gelatin is thicker, effectively, than a few millimeters of aluminum airplane skin.

I could see the air marshalls using it for minimal penetration. Terrorists hit with it could be saved, possibly....for interrogation in Cuba. Or civilians could be saved, for civil suits to ensue.

Airplanes have to be considered CQB environments also.

Is it better than any other frangible ammo, doesn't look like it other than price and ridiculously 6th grade graphics on their packaging.
