Family Guy Pro Gun?

I'm watching the second season of Family Guy on DVD, and in the millenium episode where the earth blows up, Peter (the father) creates a new community based around the twinkie factory and becomes mayor. He comes to the realization that they need guns for protection and is run out of the town by the rest of the citizens. The citizens then burn all the guns that had been created. During the burning the town is attacked by mutants and the citizens all of a sudden realize they need the guns. While the whole town was anti except the father, it seemed to be ultimately pro gun as in the end all but one of the anti's realized they were wrong (the last anti was the mother who wasn't there when the town was attacked).

Anyone see this episode?
 
I have seen that episode and it was a good one. I like when Peter ate all the dehydrated food and then drake the glass of water. There was also an episode of the Family Guy were they kinda make fun of the NRA. I don't know if they really have a political slant, I think they just poke fun at anything and everything.
 
Family Guy is not pro-gun

As much as I enjoy the Family Guy (have both DVDs!), it has a decidely anti-gun bent to it. There's the episode where Peter discovers that his son is more, um, endowed, than him and to compensate he buys a gun and joins some NRA-knock-off (they imply that gun owners are compensating for something lacking...) They have a send-off on the Eddie Eagle type video where a handpuppet in the shape of a revolver tells a little boy that he makes loud noises to scare bad people away. (IIRC)

There's an episode wherein the disabled cop (Joe) accidently shoots Charlton Heston -- it's not the whole episode, just a little throw-away gag -- Joe is very appologetic and the Heston character tells him it's OK, it's his God-given right (or something along that line).

It's pretty funny stuff, and if you can't laugh at yourself, life's no fun, but I don't think the writers on that show have memberships in the NRA...

Maybe you haven't seen the one yet in which Peter joins the local gun club because he's get a serious penis envy situation going on which his son (who has a much larger gun than his...).

Later in the show the clear inference is made that gun owners have small penises, ergo the reason for liking guns is a psychological tranference where the power of the firearm becomes the substitute penis.

Oh yeah.

Sometimes a joke is just a joke. Or maybe it's a cigar.

Sounds like the Simpsons episode where they get rid of all the guns and then the ghost of Billy the Kid, maybe, comes to take over the town.

I haven't seen that one, but there are a couple of other Simpson episodes that seem quite pro-gun as well.

Particularly the where Homer got a gun (and joined the NRA, but was kicked out for using his gun to open bottles, change TV channels, etc). Marge was anti all the way through, but at the end converted (and started packing) after they foiled a hold-up.

"But Marge, a gun isn't a tool. It's a deadly weapon!"
- Homer, when told off by Marge for leaving the gun where the children could get it.

Great quote from Lenny:
"Assault rifles have a lot of bad press, but we need them for hunting all these modern animals, like the flying squirrel, and the electric eel."


There was also the Hallowe'en episode, where Lisa wishes away all violence and weapons, and the world gets invaded by aliens (Kang and Kodos). Eventually, someone (re)invents the "board-with-a-nail-in-it"

Kang: "That board with a nail in it may have defeated us. But the humans wont stop there. They'll make bigger boards with bigger nails. Soon, they will make a board with a nail so big it will destroy them all."


(Been a while since I've seen those episodes, so appologies in advance if I've got any details wrong).


Anyone else know any gun-related Simpsons quotes?

I don't think Family Guy is "Pro" anything

There's no group they wouldn't make fun of, no joke they didn't try to sneak past the censors. The show was pure genius, but too blue, even for Fox.
 
Penis envy? Why then do people buy those 2" revolvers?

Seriously, why do people get so wrapped up in the political leanings of a cartoon?

I have seen a lot of pro-gun things on The Simpsons though. My favorite is the episode where Krusty is running for some political office, Senate maybe. Don't remember. Anyway, during his swearing in, he comes to the part about upholding the Constitution and such, and then turns to the crowd and says, "I mean it, too! So gun owners, I can't touch ya!"

The crowd erupts in cheering and occasional celebratory gunfire. :D
 
Yup, just a cartoon after all. Kinda like movies, just entertainment, at least for some. Can't take it all seriously.:D

How can you not? Family Guy is hilarious. I was living off MPEGs of TV rips for the longest time until the DVDs got released.

FOX is probably going to bring the show back because they finally realized that it has a huge following (after the Vol 1 DVD set sold out and they had to do another print run, and with the high ratings in syndication on Cartoon Network).
 
IMO, The Simpsons seem to be more balanced in their depiction of firearms than Family Guy with FG leaning slightly more towards a scoffing anti bent. But as mentioned, these are satirical shows.
 
im pretty sure Family Guy is equal-opportunity mockery. They make fun of everything. No one is "safe."
