Do you have a favorite? I must admit a fondness for the .22 rifle. Many of us learned to shoot using one, I did. And with the price of ammo heading up I'm thinking of adding another .22 to the fold. I have now have the three. The J.C. Higgins (Marlin) bolt that I learned on a Marlin 60 and a BL22. If you have a favorite, I'd like to hear about it.

Thanks

Tom

That would be my CZ 452 Lux. Wonderfully accurate with iron sights, and as well made a gun as I've yet owned.

Of course, my 1966 Sears bolt .22 is a sentimental favorite, but it shoots pretty poorly.

Ive got ,and had , a million. but right now, I would have to say my fave is a remmy 241, semi auto, take down model, that shoots shorts only!!! it is just so freakin cool, next would have to be a remmy speedmaster, similar rifle, but fires all 3 22 carts interchaneably. Bigger , and not take down though.
accuracy on both, with open sights, is just sick...

CZ453 American. I've got a sweet piece of glass on top of it, bless my poor eyes, and a good sling.

It's my training rifle. With the sling, I can use it for position shooting. It's a tack driver, so I know that whatever I see on the target, be it good or bad, it's all my doing. It's a no-excuses rifle.

Tough call. The ones I usually reach for are my Nylon 66 and Marlin 39A.

Since, however, you've got a bolt, an auto, and a lever I suggest you look into a 572 pump. A neat feature is that the design & ergonomics closely match an 870, esp. with the old style, no comb stock. The old style stock is great for iron sights, the new style w/comb is good for a scope.

I sure like my Henry. What isn't to love about a lever action .22? I dare you to think of one, and I will not be persuaded! :)

It's fun and swinging that lever every time is a blast. But I was thinking about picking up a 452... but can't really justify another $300 for a .22.....

I like the Browning SA-22, also known as the Browning semiautomatic. It was one of Browning's last designs. Very compact, reliable action. Bottom eject is unusual (and can toss hot brass down your shirt sleeve if you're not careful) but actuating bar can be used by right / left handers without trouble. Accurate, even though it's a take-down design.

After cycling the action on a model 52 Winchester, everything else was a disappointment. Now have six 52's and counting.....

Stevens Model 66-B. :neener:

The thing is more than 40 years old (made prior to 1968, not sure how many years prior), but it's still accurate. It's also nearly a full sized rifle, which works a lot better for me than child-sized .22's. The only major mechanical issue with it is that dry firing has messed up the chamber a little bit, which sometimes make extraction of rounds difficult.

I am a 10/22 fan, though I have a couple of different .22's that I enjoy shooting just as much. Still, if I had to pick just one, it would be a 10/22.

It's a toss-up between the Winchester 52D and the Remington 40-x. Both came from CMP North Store. Both have nice triggers and super accuracy. I guess I'd go with the Remington 40-x, because it's easy to mount a "normal" scope.

I have a number of 22 rifles. As mentioned, the Winchester 52D or Remie 40x are excellent. Both are pretty expensive but very good. They are intended for benchrest shooting and competition.

With the models you have listed, I would probably buy a CZ 452 or 453 as a first choice for overall value for the money. Folks love these rifles. I have one. Talking to a guy the other day that has four of them in 22 (2), 22WMR, and 17HMR. They are just hard to beat for the price. Take a look at one in a store.

What else is around was is available? Anything Anshutz. New Weatherby Mark XXII (bolt action) is very good. Savage is making the Mark II Classic with a walnut stock which I really want to see in person. Remington is selling a Model 547 this year which is a higher end 22 rifle (relative to Remington) and I would guess is comparable to the discontinued Model 541-S or 541-T. Both of these are excellent sporter rifles. Foks love these!

There are the Cooper and Kimbers also if you are willing to pay the price.

The Remington 547 is next on my purchase list. But if you want a quality 22 rifle that is accurate out of the box, I would go with the CZ 452 or 453. You will be happy with it and you won't be spending the big bucks for a 22 rifle.

My favorite is my CZ 513 (Basic). Good rifle. Next would be my winchester 67a, followed by me WZ48.

I always love how everyone always tell people to go get a 10/22 when they ask about a .22 but when you ask what peoples favorite 22 are very few say 10/22.

My favortie .22 is my Remington 572 fieldmaster. Its accurate, easy enough to totally tear down, cycles everything(shorts, long,lr,subs, anything), Now worries of jambs. I mainly use the primer only super quiet stuff. Its quieter than a pellet gun and I get 17 shots as fast as I can rack the slide

Right now, I have 2 of the .22LR long guns...

An OLD Marlin 99, a $20 pawnshop rescue. Every 5 or 6 thousand rounds, I'll pull the action out, swish it around in a bucket of Min-Spir, let dry and put back into the stock.

40th Year 10/22. After 5,000 rounds, this thing is still hardly even broken in.

im a huge fan of the remington nylons. they are light, dont require alot (any?) maintance, are a full sized gun, accurate, and tons of fun to shoot.

hands down my favorite!
