Top five favorite rifles...

I'm at this point going with:

M1 Garand - I just love the history and the sex appeal.

CZ452 - About as nice of a rimfire as you can get short of spending Anschutz/Cooper dollars. Enough variations to keep everyone happy.

Savage 110/10 - Darn accurate out of the box. With a couple fairly inexpensive tools the home hobbyist can swap triggers, stocks, bolt heads, and barrels. Swapping from a light weight deer rifle to a heavy barreled 100 yard bench gun to a 1000 yard F-class rifle only takes a couple screws, a nut, and then a go gauge. Not the best setup in the world but for the tinkerer on a budget it is one heck of a value.

Marlin 336, especially the older pre-crossbolt safety models - Darn accurate, very inexpensive, very handy, and powerful enough for anything I would come across locally. I really like my .30-30. It is the handy rifle of the group.

AR15 - Another option that is very modular. The platform can be pistol, sbr, carbine, a plain rifle, a service match rifle, a varmint rifle, as well as a competition rifle, and a very open ended fighting rifle. It fills a lot of roles well. It works well for a hunting rifle as well as a range rifle as well as a battle rifle. Not many that really fill all three well. Even the M1 I picked above is a bit heavy for field use considering today's lightweight bolt action rifles.

Hey, I have a question, in the top 5 favorites, does liking 8 or 10 variants of a particular model Winchester count as 1? I like various types, baby carbines, standard early carbines, round barrel rifles, octagon rifles, short rifles, extra light rifles,.....:D

ya that counts as one I guess, the rules are more like ''guidelines''

Ruger 10/22 - Funnest rifle ever IMNSHO

AR-15 - ditto above comment

Remington 700 - 'cuz it allows me to reach out and touch practically anything I can see

AK-47 - best bang for the buck in the centerfire world

Ruger #1 - most beautiful rifle made (in my eyes anyway) something about a single shot...

1) AR-15- an excellent all round rifle that is very customizable to individual tastes
2) CZ-452 (and well, anything else made by CZ)- cheap .22 fun, excellent irons, well made, reasonable price
3) SMLE- unique, 10 rounds in a bolt action...
4) Marlin 39- beautiful .22 lever action, a Cadillac of .22s
5) Ruger 10/22- easily customizable fun .22.

As you can see, I like .22LR firearms a lot. They are affordable to purchase and shoot and a lot of fun.

1. M-1 Garand
2. AR-15 (1.a being the 20", 1.b the 16" carbine)
3. AK-47

5. Mosin-Nagant

Rounding out the top 10 are the HK-93, M1 Carbine, Model 1917, Gew 98, and SKS.

2. AR-10 .308, gas piston- Best ultility rifle ever made

3. Remington 40X Rimfire .22lr- Because you need a .22lr set up just like your favorite centerfire rifle.

4. McMillan .50 Repeater .50BMG- BRING IT BITCHES!! Seriously what can this not do.

5. Glock 17 9mm- Because everybody should have a reliable centerfire pistol.

Yep, and I only have #1, anyone got an extra 40-45 thousand they want to give to me??

1. M1 Garand - this is the primary weapon during WWII that preserved democracy in the 20th century.
2. 98 Mauser - this is the rifle that all modern bolts trace lineage to.
3. 94 Winchester - there are probably more of these in American homes than any other rifle. IMO, the most beautiful style of rifle ever made.
4. M16/AR15 - like them or hate them, this is the primary weapon of the US Armed Forces and has been for over 40 years.

I wanna play!

1) U.S. Rifle .30 Cal M1 (Garand) - What can I possibly add except that I LIKE the heft and girth, the en bloc loading system, and mine is quite accurate.

2) Remington 760 30'06 - Lucked into a first-year example of this slide action workhorse with bolt gun accuracy. What's not to love? And it's older than my Garand!

3) Saiga 308 ver.21 - Accuracy, capacity, looks, reach, and power. Hominahominahomina...

4) Marlin 60 - FUN FUN FUN, slender & pretty (would love to find its female human counterpart).

1. M1A
2. AR-180 (The original, all-steel version. Light, rugged, very good handling, accurate, reliable, cheap, just an all-around kick-ass infantry rifle.)
3. Winchester Model 70 (Beautiful, strong, accurate. Mine is 458 win mag super express)
4. SIG 556 (Same reasons as AR-180, but much higher quality, but not light nor cheap)
5. Mini-14

My favorites in no particular order:

AK- fun, rugged and makes antis cry

AR- Versatile, swapping uppers lets it be everything from a .22lr plinker to a tack driver, to a fighting gun, to a big bore hammer.

Win 94- I've always liked lever guns and I think there fun to shoot. Why the win 94 in particular? My dad had one.

Rem 700- the bolt gun I grew up shooting. A rem 700 can be everything from a hunting gun to the base for a very high end custom gun. I like other bolt guns but making me pick one I'll take the 700.

Barret M82A1- Does this one need explanation?

Others I like:
FAL, AUG, SBR GSG-5, and the Shilo Sharps

Only mentioning rifles I own in no particular order:

Marlin 1894 Cowboy Limited .44 Magnum mostly a fun gun, as I don't shoot CAS, but I COULD! Dandy and handy, makes for a big grin when I get 'in the zone.'
BRNO 98k 8mm Mauser Best 'free to me' firearm EVER. Hell of a lot of fun to shoot, accurate and powerful with a fast smooth action.
Colt 6920 5.56mm ONLY wanted one if it was a Colt (I have a number of Colt handguns), finally got my Colt and not dissapointed AT ALL. Seriously fun little rifle.
Savage 116 FSAK .30-06 this is THE hunting rifle, though I'd use the 98k for back up in a pinch.
Marlin 995 .22LR (if the Marlin 39 in the safe belonged to me this would be a fave, but my little semi auto rifle has served me well since I was... 13 or so.)

If the list went to 10 I'd have more replies.

Hk91. It's rock solid and utterly reliable. It puts .308 down range and on target in a hurry. A bit on the heavy side it is still my favorite semi auto battle rifle.

CZ VZ58. It's light, reliable, balanced, well made and battle rifle accurate. The 30 round mag is a plus. Did I mention it's a bast to shoot?

CZ550 FS. Just a classic design with great accuracy and light weight to boot. In .308 it is an excellent hunting rifle.

Winchester Model 12 shotgun. The pump shotgun all others want to be. I especially like it in 20GA.

This was a hard choice to make. I have several fine .22s, but my favorite is the Browning SA22. It is so light and accurate. The fact it breaks down for packing is a big plus.
