Favorite 30-06 rifles

Only 30-06 I have was made from a old K98K with a shot out 8m bbl. Ran across a stepped barrel chambered for the '06. Screwed it on the old action and for about 80 bucks total got a good truck gun.

The Winchester Model 54. (When this new-fangled Model 70 craze blows over, you'll want a design that's really stood the test of time ;) )
Also, the Steyr Mannlicher B is pretty nifty.

I have two '06's. My personnel favorite is my Rem. 760 '06 made in the early to mid 60's. That would be post grooved forend, and pre free floating barrel versions. The other '06 was my Dad's model 700 ADL. Both shoot great!!

Don't know what action your prefer, but if this rifle will be used for hunting I'd recommend the Rem. 7600 pump, carbine or rifle, the BAR semi-auto and the Browning A-Bolt or Rem. 700 Mtn. Rifle for a bolt action.

Get an '06, you won't be sorry!

so many good choices.

auto i have to go with the bar for hunting the garand for plinking.

bolt winchester pre 64 model 70

lever winchester 95 just an all around nice gun.

(to bad my 30-06 is a remington 740:uhoh: )

Collectible/History: Garand
Hunter/All Around: Remington 700 BDL, Winchester M70, or an older Sako

Every American shooter should own at least one M1 Garand at least once in their lifetime. I now own four and have owned as many as twelve at one time.
(I became obsessed. Therapy and gentle care broke this fault,,kind of,,sort of,,)

As for Sporting rifles, my heart is held by my Grade ll Browning BAR.

Another vote for the Remington 760 here. I just took mine up to AK and used it to bring home a nice tasty caribou. Easy handling, plenty accurate, and very reliable. Mine has been working hard since March of '54 (though with me for only a small portion of that time). I also shoot left handed, and find the slide action easy and natural for me to operate.

1903 A3 Springfield

pre 64 Winchester model 70

Vintage Remington Model 700

and you might consider the Ruger #1

The BAR is my favorite rifle of this caliber. But I own a Remington 700 which is a good bolt action gun.

Of course the '06 is the classic American rifle cartridge and will do about 90% of what a center-fire rifle needs to do. There are better choices for varmints and elephants but everything in between is '06 material.

Many classic guns in this caliber. The 1903 Springfield, the M1 Garand, the 1917 Enfield, the 1895 Winchester and many others.

Here are some of my '06s.

A CZ 550 with the full stock.

A Remington Model 30 circa 1930s.

Custom commercial 98 with European style wood, set triggers and other features I like in a rifle.

This is an odd one. A Columbian military 98 in .30-'06 wearing a very contemporary looking laminated stock but with traditional folding leaf sights, banded front ramp sight, banded forward sling swivel, etc. I was in a weird mood when I built this one, I guess.

I have had Garands, and 1903s and 1917s but don't currently have any of those. Shame on me.

Saxon Pig, what's the glass on the CZ? I'm guessing 33-35mm, something like 2-7x? 1.5-5x??

I think it's pictured with an inexpensive 4x32 Bushnell or the like. I have since replaced that with a 1.5-4.5x20 beceause I like the European look of these scopes with the small tube. It looks similar to the glass on THIS rifle.

My vote go for the Browning FN Safari. I also have a Garand and have in the passed owned a pre-64 Mod. 70. The Browning has a three teir barrel which by its design accounts for better accuracy, the quality of these rifles were second to none when they were produced as a matter of fact I think they are second to none as we speak.

Any rifle can be made better by being chambered in .30-06. :D

My favorite WW2 weapon is a .30-06, the BAR (yes the machine gun, and man are they fun to shoot.)

My hunting rifle is a .30-06 Savage 116fsak. My previous hunting rifle was a Savage 110B in .30-06. I've killed more game than I can easily count with those 2 rifles.

I have another .30-06 made by Remington, 1943 Mfg. Springfield 1903-A3. Sturdy as a draft horse.

I have never owned a Garand, but I'd certainly like too. I went to a show with the intention of buying one in '94 but another rifle caught my eye instead.

My old man is another fan of the venerable Remington 760 pump action carbine, and he's killed a number of elk and deer with it, antelope and wild boar too. Surprisingly accurate old rifle.

If I was buying a new rifle, I'd give the CZ 550 a good look, along with the Savage 116 series.

Nothing more to say! :D

i think mines called the 1903a3 sporter. its a remington. its the most comfortable 30-06 ive fired. big cooshy rubber butt, and a older bushnell 3-9 scope. i havent shot it as much as i want to but so far my best group with it was .61 inch at 50 yards. im hoping to improve that in the future, but im afraid the gun may not be capable of anything better. i want to get a 11 deg crown cutter soon so i can do all my guns and see how the accuracy improves.

i really liked my old remington 721 but i sold that and wish i hadnt. but, i cant afford to keep all my toys and afford new ones too.
