Looking for opinions on 300 blackout dies for an AR platform rifle. I use Hornady dies for all my bolt action rifles and .45acp. I do use the Lee FCD for the 45 just because I don't like to seat and comp together. What dies do you like for 300 blackout?

I think my favorite one is the GSI trim die and tool head, it saves a lot of time converting cases.

I’d rather use anyone’s dies to load with that not have that one.

I've used Lee dies with good result for 300AAC as long as I was using previous 300 brass. I did find that if I was converting 223 cases to 300, the Lee dies left some too "fat" to chamber reliably in my AR or in a case gauge, so I have a set of RCBS small base 300 dies for that conversion.

I've been pleased with my Lee set. Especially after I built a powder through die out of a 38 powder die with a 30 carbine plug in it.

I've got both RCBS and Hornady standard die sets. Both work perfectly for AR 300 BLK and Ruger bolt action. Don't see any need for small based or AR series with small based sizer and taper crimp. Maybe taper crimp if you shoot only lead or coated bullets. I seat with Hornady's seater with sliding alignment sleeve and size with the RCBS and crimp with RCBS. Dies in separate presses. I recommend RCBS or Hornady.

Not that they are anything special, but after a little fiddling my Lee set does original 300 BO brass as well as those I made from LC once fired brass. Eventually, like most rifle calibers I reload, I will get a set of Redding Competition dies, but a set in .308 is coming first!

Converted Brass:

Lee dies have been working great for me.

As a side note, S&B Brass (that I have via .223) is too thick / heavy wall to function in my rifle.

Hornady sizer and seater, Lyman 30 Carbine M-die, Lee FCD.

Havent found a real reason to buy Redding or Forster dies and the Hornady dies work well for forming from 223. M-die will make loading flat base and HiTek coated bullets alot easier. Lee FCD is the best way Ive found to remove flare.

Thanks for the opinions. Ordered a set of Hornady dies and a Lee FCD. Starting out on some LC that's already converted and saving my .223/5.56 brass so I can start making my own.

I have a Forster and Hornady FL sizers. Neither is "better", the Forster is a hair tighter. I have a Redding standard seater with a Redding Bullet Seating Micrometer top for it. It's very handy for dialing back and forth to various bullets. I have an RCBS "taper crimp" seater I use without the stem for when I crimp. It is called a taper crimp, but is more of a cross between a roll and a a taper. It does what I log as a "Modified Roll" crimp.
