A .22 auto, usually the Colt Woodsman, was what I carried for many years. Four decades, really. When what remained of America's truly wild places was a refuge from the world.
But times have changed. The threats from the natural environment (like lions, tigers and bears) have not changed. But the threat from humans, or to be more specific, the low-life element, and their invasion of the natural environment for their various illegal activities, has changed the nature and character of the potential threat. And that requires defensive thinking and defensive preparation.
So I carry my usual self defense choice that I would carry in the city. Usually concealed. But sometimes I will open carry a heavy revolver, just for fun.
