:confused:I just purchased a PA 63 and would love to hear pro's and con's. Cleaned pistol and mags now slide want stay back after last round is fired. I don't think they are well made. Pistol was shipped with 2 mags and 1 is trash. I fired a few rounds of Wolf FMJ wow recoil for sure. I'm not sure If I like it or not !

Pros:

Pretty much indestructible
Small size for carry
9x18 Mak is a pretty decent round

Cons:

Recoil that you will feel in the morning
Trigger that weighs as much as my Charger.

Remove extractor and clean the extractor spring hole occasionally. If the extractor plunger gets gunked up and doesn't do its job of applying pressure to the extractor, extractor removes itself from the gun when firing.

Then, good luck finding it. FEG extractors are currently unobtanium.

I have the .22LR version of it, the AP-22. Excellent finish and feel. I like an all-steel gun in the hand. Rock-solid piece, as is the PA-63.

Do NOT run hot ammo- even if suitably re- sprung...alloy frame+ " hot 9x18 mm= Bad Juju"... Keep it happy- feed it standard pressure factory ball.

I've had one for years. I find it a fun gun to shoot! I have a large hand and have never had a problem with it biting me. IF you hold it right you won't hava a problem. I started my niece out shooting at 10. She liked the PA 63.
I shoot a variety of ammo thru mine and have never had a problem.
I like it for use when my Browning HP is to large to carry.

What Dain Bramage and Gripper said! Mine broke the extractor, took me months to find one. And avoid hot ammo, the recoil of that little darlin' can be fierce.

I have owned a number of these guns in .380acp. & 9×18mak. . The 9×18mm does kick more but it's not that bad. Mine ran from new to used and they all worked fine! It is my understanding that FEG' is no more. Someone will let us know if am wrong. I have a commercial FEG' PMK in .380acp. I like very well! It is very well made & I gave .380 PA-63s to all 3 of my kids as a carry gun when they were old enough. They did well for them also. Trade it for a .380acp.! You may have better luck! If not sell it & grab a Makarov. J.M.T.s. Good luck!

I have one that I bought a little over 20 years ago and have put maybe 1,000 rounds through it in that time. Primarily been my car/truck gun for most of that time. I've not had any problems with it other than a very heavy double action trigger pull but remedied that recently with a new spring that greatly reduced the pull.

Reliability is another reason, never had a malfunction with my 380's, 32 acp, and 9X18's. Can't say that about my Walther PPK/S. The rimfires are about like others in that size.

Accuracy is another pro....just saying. The biggest con is that some parts can be hard to find but with the current prices being low I have one complete parts gun and two gun parts kits bought off of GB. My favorite is the R61 in 380 followed by the SMC 918.

The SMC is basically same gun as P-64. With arrival of G42 unless cost is of concern I see no reason to buy small Warsaw Pact military/police pistols. There is nothing wrong with keeping what one has but I see no reason to seek new purchases. With respect of accuracy it will be far easier for occasional shooter to get most out of G42 vs small 9x18 blowback pistol.

As much as I like all of my FEG's, they would not be my first suggestion to a new shooter or someone wanting ONE handgun. I have over 4 dozen and simply prefer them over most newer polymer handguns. Have not shot the G42 but accuracy was the main reason I bought my first Com-Block gun and is one of the reasons that I keep them. It would be hard to find a more reliable handgun with so many available parts, if ever needed, as the standard military Makarov. I know that many folks have tried them and moved on, I'm just not over them yet.

I love them. Mine have been rock solid and highly reliable. For the price I think you can do a lot worse, although they cost a bit more today than years ago (what doesn't).

I feel it is a great tool, with classic ergonomics. If you are searching for a smooth action, nice double action trigger and a great sight picture, you should probably pass on a pa-63. Many have reported that swapping springs makes it a different experience. The 63 does not come super smooth out of the box, but it works well, so long as you are running ball ammo.

If you are looking for an inexpensive Walther PP copy, chambered in 9 mak (or other) made to police/military specifications, it is a great option.

During the early 90s those little guns poured into the country through CAI and other importers. They came with a military holster and two magazines. Dealers cost was around $69 EA. We sold them for around $89 to $99 and of all the guns we sold between shows and the shop I have always regretted not keeping one or two for myself. They are a well made reliable little 9X18 Makarov and just a sweet little semi automatic pistol. Hell, today I see them every now and then at shows in the $300 to $350 range. Those FEG PA63 guns are something I would buy if I see a nice one original as imported. Hungarian made and just plain nice.

The FEG SMC is similar to the P-64 as the Glock19 is similar to a Walther PPQ. Heck all guns are similar in a few ways. I have both of the above mentioned guns and the SMC is lighter and much simpler to detail strip than the P-64. I do agree that they fill a similar role.

Several years ago I bought 4 of them for $99 a piece, great accurate little pistols, they will beat the heck out of one little spot on the top hand. I was at a gun show last year and saw how much they were going for so I sold 3 of them to put some extra green in my pocket. I tried some aftermarket grips on one but they cracked in half after a few mags shot, the business refused to refund me or replace them, they disapeared from the internet a month or so later.

I shoot both the PA63 9x18 and the SMC .380, both are nicely made and function flawlessly however as noted they can be a little sharp on the web of the hand. Good defensive pistol...yes! Good for general plinking.....I have other pistols that are more fun for extended shooting. Mine are from the days when they were sold "new" today's offerings are a bit worn.
