Just playing with you. Sorry if it was too rough
dear god, i didnt say to put the gloves back on! whaddami, some emotional lush that wears his feelings on his sleeve now? (shut up carebear! just shut up!)

:D

Answer me this: Why is it that so many females with absolutely no firearms experience are dead on shots the first time they go to the range? Granted, it's usually with a .22, .38 spcl or some other light recoiling caliber. I've had this experience more than a few times with former girlfriends and an ex-wife, and know other guys who report the same phenomenon.

They listen.
No Dirty Harry fantasies harbored for years.
No blustering and posturing ... and the list goes on.

Have introduced/instructed hundreds of newbies. Always the same ... the women outshoot the guys nine times out of ten.

Interestingly the trend doesn't necessarily correlate as experience grows, but it is noticable in rookies.

41mag, I have been approached at the range a few times. The guys invariably ask, 1)“What agency I am with?†(thinking I must be a cop of some sort) or, 2) “How did you learn to shoot so well?â€

Answer to #1 – I am a network engineer by trade. Answer to #2 – Good training with the best.

Deal with it boyz! Women shoot, and well. Why? When being trained, we don’t have monumental egos, probably no bad habits to start with and we listen to our instructors. Wild Bill is dead on correct.

Speaking of training, I am quite tired of being the only woman in class! (And getting the “hairy eyeball†the minute I walk in, although it usually goes away in an hour or too, once I prove myself…Sigh…)

C’mon grrls! Get to class and keep me company!!!

So you are arguing that there should be gradient levels of offensiveness?

i think theres a better corelation of '******, spic, chink, etc' to 'bitch, 'ho, etc', than to 'broad, chick, dame, skirt, etc'.

OK, I am only mildly offended. :)

However, I do think that it is interesting that we haven't heard any similar "nicknames" for men from the women who have posted to this thread. Hmmmm..... ;)

Guess I give off some "non-threatening married guy pheromone".
With apologies for the off topic skew,I believe that there is something tangible to that.
Give it a try sometime. We don't bite, you know...

Uh,yes you do. :D I have the scars to prove it.

Seriously though I usually mind my own p's & q's until someone comes along w/something terribly interesting(loud:)).

we wont get offended. fire away! who knows? maybe the 'nickname' you have to call me will be the nicest thing anyones said to me in a long time?

I must disagree. 'bitch', 'ho, etc. carry with them the accusation of illegitimate activities, whereas all the rest are just pejoratives unrelated to any activity.

ahhh, but when i wish to mutter an expletive at a woman, i dont say "dang broad!"
though if i have to mutter an expletive at anyone, i usually will substitute 'canadian' with whatever word other people would use. that way, no one can say one way or the other if i called them 'canadian' as an insult.

Good point. :)

I've taken a whole bunch of classes over the past few years. There've been a few classes I've been in where I was the only woman. And many, many more where the only other woman was someone who'd been towed to the range by her husband, and didn't really want to be there. I've shot matches where I was the only female participant, and I've shot matches where only one other woman showed up.

You know what, though?

I've also taken all-female classes. And I've shot in all-female matches. :) And I've shot in matches that were more than half female (oooh, that was fun).

At FAS, they've got a women's study group for their graduates that meets approximately once a month during the spring, summer, and fall. Usually runs about 15 to 20 people, and it's a blast. It's unbelievable how much fun it is to shoot with other women. The atmosphere is completely different than it is in classes with mostly guys, and it is well worth the price of admission.

I've never felt unwelcome in the testosterone-charged atmosphere of the upper level classes where I'm sometimes the only female. But I'll tell you, it's sure a lot of fun to let my hair down and hang out with other women sometimes too. :D

Thanks, pax, for the recommendation.

I love Washington, and it’s one of the places I am considering once I escape the People’s Republic.

Seems that I must make my way up the coast, soon.

Re: the “hairy eyeball,†I have never felt unwelcome by any of my instructors, and it is a tribute to the quality of them and their instruction. I have gotten the askance look from some of my classmates, though. But, as I said, it tends to go away quickly.

It’s easy to blow off, since I do enjoy shooting!

:what:
Doooh! Now ya done it Spiff!

Wacking on women and Canadians at the same time! And not even properly capitalizing the word as well!?!

Oh man, my sweetie's Canadian. If you promise to put in a good word for me with that penguin buddy of yours next time I call him for a deal I'll try and stop her from getting on the the plane and going Spiff hunting in the hinterland.
:D :D :D

Oh. Right. Sorry, I forgot - she's Canadian. They don't get upset about nothing except the GST and Quebec independence. Never mind. ;)

It has been my experience in helping teach classes with women in them is that, if they actually WANT to be there (not being dragged or badgered by a sig. other), women are, as is almost stereotypical :p , better students then men for the same stereotypical reasons everyone else has listed.

When does a stereotype stop being a stereotype and just become a general rule?

I must be missing something. Maybe I am living in the wrong era.

I call ladies by their given last name, and first names after persmission granted by them. I use "Ma'am","Lady" and similar terms.

Heck when I was married I used my wife's first name more often than terms of endearment. I dunno I thought hearing one's name was supposed to be a "good thing".

I have personally learned a LOT from Ladies. I might have been the one teaching them about how to shoot, heck even how to shoot skeet - I always learned something from them. I preferred teaching ladies and kids...daughters were some of the best students, had the best one-liners. " Mom! I'm not going to reach down your blouse to get that hot brass...your embarrassing meeee!" or " That guy squats when he shoots skeet, is he having a BM? " :D I guess you had to be there. :p I missed high 7 ,laughing and shooting don't mix...

Ms. Tamara knows more in her little finger about so many things, including firearms than I will ever know. I admit that. Only saving grace I have - maybe Tamara is lousy at skeet...then again - just my luck... Heck I'd be honored to just sit and listen to Ms. Tamara, Mrs. pax, Ms. Kaylee, Mrs. Gus...

What do I know? I still open doors and hold a chair for a lady as she sits at the table...*shrug*

Heck...I'd get a kick just watching Mrs. pax trying to get 5 boys together to go anywhere...

"Steve, close the darn door , you are letting all the warm air out, NO the boys are not ready ...go find the dog...make yourself useful will ya? " :uhoh: :p

I'm with sm on the holding doors/chairs. And can someone tell me when holding a oor for a woman became an insult?

Granted, my previous post was meant to poke fon (since "frail" is NOT a word that describes most of the ladies here). But the whole "I'm perfectly capable of opening a door mySELF" attitude has me confused.

Sorry about the thread veer.

Another chair/door/miss/ma'am/stand on bus type here.

Perhaps I'm rebelling with (poor) ironic humor against my innate chivalry? :D

i'll treat my mom or grandmother that way. very few others.

i'm decidedly not chivalrous. i'm not a knight in shining armor. i'm not fabio (kills me to admit it, i'm sure all you chicks imagine me to be a hunk-a-hunk-o-muscular-man, but i'll be honest: i'm just not fabio), i'm not mr nice guy (anymore).

i firmly believe you are capable of opening your own door, seating yourself, getting yourself a beverage, paying for your way, etc.

believe it or not, i actually like being around self-sufficient, strong willed women. let me clarify that, self-sufficient, strong willed woman, that are humble enough to know when they are in over their head and can ask for help. if you're gonna be stubborn about it, i probably wont help you.

Spiff,

Noone is saying they aren't capable of doing all that. Just that they shouldn't have to. Like serving in the military.
