If you are dead set on a 10/22, just buy a KIDD action, barrel and trigger assembly and put it together yourself. My 10/22s are just builds on various actions. You will save money in the long run if you plan on replacing everything anyway.

Chances that McAngus buys into a Kidd 10/22, probably 0.001%

Accurate and quiet- then buy a good quality bolt action
Spraying bulk ammo w/semi-auto with averageaccuracy that you can go crazy on customizing- then buy a M&P 15-22

The 10/22 is somewhere in the middle, lost with no real purpose. It's just a cheap gun that does nothing great. Only when piles of cash is applied does it get anywhere.
I never understand why these rifles are so recommended when you are just going to customize it to the point that it's not even what you started with at all.
It's like buying a entry level AR-15 for $600 and later investing in parts like a Noveske barrel for it. It just seems if you like building things for fun, then get some Legos.

Oh, someone will come along and defend the 10/22 and tell us what a tack driver his is...Of course, he has likely changed everything but the butt plate and is using a tack with a head as big as a quarter.:D
I had a standard 10/22 carbine a while back, but sold it to a friend.

I bought a 10/22 Tactical(the one with the heavy barrel) a few years ago and that rifle shoot ~1" groups at 100 yards. I was using Wolf Match Extra. In all fairness I paid ~$450 for than 10/22 which is about $200 more than a standard 10/22 carbine. If you want a tack driver 10/22, you're going to have to spend some money.

I have a Marlin Model 60 with a wood stock I bought at Walmart for $147. I put a cheap Tasco 3-9 scope on it and I will have to say it is a more accurate rifle than a 10/22 carbine. It shoots about 1" at 50 yards.

Their is a free app for android phones for walmart and sams both. With the SKU number you can check at any walmart. Just pick your store as your home store and it will pull it up. You can scan the SKU bar code on the item. If some one can give you the SKU number you can do it. Works for me on anything I have tried. We were doing it looking for .22 ammo for some time. You can change stores too.

I would think walmart would have one for a iPhone too.

I wonder why some folks feel the need to pollute every 10/22 thread with all the reasons why they hate them.

Bought my first 10/22 over 20yrs ago and proceeded to lay waste to all small game in its path. It shoots into 3/4"@50yds with bulk hollowpoints and that's plenty good enough for rabbits and squirrels. Paper punchers will obviously want more but the Ruger was never intended as a target rifle. For 22yrs, it has been dead reliable through tens upon tens of thousands of rounds and is plenty accurate enough for its intended purpose. A $35 Volquartsen target hammer is all they need. Quality? Yes the Ruger is a good quality rifle for its price point. Head and shoulders above the el cheapo Marlins.

Yes, I would expect a CZ bolt gun to be more accurate. Who wouldn't? It's easy to make a $300 boltgun more accurate than a $300 automatic. But it's real hard to shoot a boltgun semi-auto and far as I know, there are no 25rd magazines or 50rd drums available for the CZ. This is a bogus apples to oranges comparison.

Ruger has sold millions of 10/22's and for good reason. The notion that you have to spend a bunch of money on aftermarket parts to get any use out of them is absurd. Fact is, you spend a bunch of money on them to get a lot more accuracy out of them. Or you spend money to make them more suitable to a specific purpose.
