Will the big slide out of the upper after separating it from the lower or is there a pin holding it in?
i guess you mean bcg. the charging handle holds it in. to remove pull the charging handle out, the bcg will slide out then pull down on the charging handle and out to remove that. there are some good videos on youtube to learn the basics. midwasysua has a ar building series, check that out to.

I use a product called "motorkote" on metal parts and inside the barrel, it is supposed to "impregnate" the metal I let the small parts soak overnight and put it in the barrel wet and let it soak in, I think it makes it easier to clean. When I was driving a big truck I found putting it in the crankcase, rear ends and transmission lowered the temperature of them so I use it in everything i own

I generously apply CLP to my bolt and make sure to wipe down and apply another squirt between sessions on mine. Just checked a rifle I haven't shot in a few months and it's still pretty wet- and clean!

I never shoot more than maybe 200rd max in a given rifle at a time and my method has resulted in negligible difficulty cleaning. I hate working harder than wetting a pad and wiping things so this works for me.

Walmart had motorkote at one time, I could also find it in truck stops, they did rebates at one time and I would buy gallons for the truck and my personal vehicles. I put 1qt in each vehicle about every 2 or 3 oil changes

Be cautious about your bolt carrier sliding out when the upper and lower are separated. Yes the charging handle MIGHT hold it captive, but the notch that holds the charging handle in place is small, and the bolt carrier group is heavy. It doesn't take much of a jolt to unlock the BCG and it can hit the ground. No big deal on carpet or earth, but on concrete it could peen a bolt lug in the worst case scenario.

I wouldn't recommend trying to coat the inside of the barrel with anything. Most of those palmetto kits come with nitrided barrels which is about as good of a steel treatment as you can get on a rifle barrel. The flame temp of burning gun powder is going to burn off anything that isn't a true surface treatment. It gets MUCH hotter than any automotive application.

Enjoy your rifle and know that if you manage to wear out the barrel, you can spin on a new one for about $100 from the good people at PSA.
