Placed my first order with SG last nite for 1000rd Wolf 62gr .223. The online catalog showed available; however, when I got my order confirmation it indicated estimated delivery of December 31, 2007. Is this a common occurance with them? Not a good way to start a relationship.:(

In my experience, yes. It is also my experience that the projected shiping date keeps getting moved back and that if the ammo price increases, they want to charge you the new, higher price rather than the price you originally agreed to pay. I no longer do business with SG.

I order with them quite frequently. Currently have a sling/bayonet/scabbard on the way from them. My first order with them was back in 2004, had an excellent deal on 8mm ammo, 1,000 rounds for $63. Wish I could find that now'a'days. I order my K31 ammo from them, found a K31 accessory pouch through them, ordered a replacement handguard for my 91/30 when they had them, and my spotting scope from them.

But again this is my experience with in stock items, I've only ordered one thing that was on backorder and that was my K-31 ammo, didn't have any problems with it though. It's also the internet, I've done it once or twice myself try to order something but it's on backorder and they haven't updated the webpage. They had a two'fer on the tactical lights, ordered it on the web page but they were sold out when I went t confirmation.

SPG is a fairly fair place. Ive been doing business with them for well over a decade. that said, recently they have been having screwups with wolf.

a lot of the "copper jacketed" ammo - isn't.

Well, I ordered 240 rounds of .30-06 M2 G.I. ball ammo Monday,
for my M-1.
I got it yesterday (Friday).:neener:

I've ordered stuff from S G for years with no problem.

I have read in several places that .223 ammo is really getting scarce
due to all the wars going on all over the place. I saw recently where
even major police departments are having it "back-ordered" on them
because suppliers can't seem to get it.

I have had it happen on occasion, SInce they don't charge your credit card until it actually ships, I've been happy to lock in what has ended up bing a significantly lower price than elsewhere by the time I actually got he ammo. Last year ordered three cases of Wolff .45ACP at $140/1000, by the time they shipped it at that price Wolf was $190/1000 and now its over $200/1000.

Unless you gotta have the ammo right now, I'd not worry about it.

I haven't had any ammo issues with them and I order a fair bit since the shipping is cheaper than places like Samco. The only issue I had was them not wanting to ship a micrometer rear sight to me because I was living in CA. Even after arguing with the customer service drone about the exact catalog, page number, part number and the handy little guide they included about what stuff can be shipped where they STILL wouldn't ship the sight. Ironically the same order included 400 rounds of .303B and that went through just fine.

You surely have had different experience than me with the Sportsmansguide.com. I have never had them try to raise the price once I have already paid for an item. They have sometimes been out of stock, with a projected stock-upo date, and each time I think I have received my merchandise earlier than they had stated it would be available. Those dates by the way are always shown as soon as I get to the payment (or shopping cart page), there have been no surprises that i can remember that an items was on backorder before I actually hit the payment button. I have had other problems with them though, such as poor packing that has led to damaged gods, this happens way too frequently.

All the best,
GB

I checked last nite and the .223 I ordered is now shown as out of stock (as opposed to when I placed the order Friday nite and it showed available). Well, since they don't charge the card until ship I will let it ride and see what happens. I bought the ammo for emergency stock anyway; the stuff I shoot on a regular basis I reload.

On a side note, I called Buckeye Ourdoors yesterday and asked them to get me an 8lb jug of 748 for my .308. I inquired about bulk bullets for .223 (.55gr FMJ Bt or FB). The buyer said they could get Sierra in bulk; I told him I was looking for quantity not quality and he said he would check around and see what he could get. I will post my experience on what he comes up with in the reloading forum for anyone interested. Expect the post in about 3-4 weeks.

Try here. I ordered 5,000 of the 62 grain and got them fast. They do have the 55 grain also. I'm gonna order another 5,000 as soon as I have the extra cash.

Thanks. I will keep my order confirmation and I expect to pay the price at which my order is confirmed.
I have never seen a projected 'back order' ship date that far in the future for SPG. You will most likely get a card in 30 days asking if you still want the 'back ordered' item. I think if you mark 'yes', it leaves the price pretty much up to SPG based on what they have to pay for it.

Is this a common occurance with them?

Not common, but with ammo (especially the popular stuff) it goes VERY fast.

I have been using them since the early 90's (1/2 dozen or so orders per year), still happy with them and only had a few problems with orders over the years out of several dozen orders.

I only wish they carried MORE ammo and parts like they used to!:)

I have what I believe to be an order confirmation with a price (club price since I joined the buyers club at time or order) and I expect them to honor that price.

Some of the 7.62x39 ammo has been rather delayed, but thats true at every place you order from.

Most the stuff arrives fairly promptly. I ordered quite a few things. I normally find good prices on .303 British there.

yeah, they're a PITA, but it seems i always have something en-route from them ( right now it's sunglasses). but they do have the deals on all kinds of good stuff. their high shipping has been a source of annoyance though. the "$10 off any order over $99" coupon just about gets eaten up by their jacked up shipping. to be fair, their customer service has (almost) always managed to keep me happy when there's been a problem.

I've been buying stuff from SG for several years now, I've never had a problem and have always been happy. I mainly buy camping gear, gun magazines, holsters, and ammo. SG is the only place I buy the Wolf ammo for my SKS, SG is $20 cheaper than Midway on average, plus with the buyers club price + 10 off coupon, it becomes a good deal. I've always recieved prompt shipment, arrives within 3 days. I'll continue to buy from SG.

SMG

The prices on alot of there stuff is better than any.holsters parts ect.I ordered 45/70 at $12.**and waited for the back order for about 3 months but what a buy.you know they are owned by a French comp.we mon sour!
sorry to any french on the site[I am married to a french woman].there are other places that may be cheaper on ammo.get the shot gun news.:uhoh:

I order from them quite often. Usually anywhere from 500 to 1000 rds and I receive it within 3 or 4 days everytime. Actually, I think its only taken 4 days once.

I just figured their fast delivery was built into their rediculous shipping prices.:)

{{the projected shiping date keeps getting moved back and that if the ammo price increases, they want to charge you the new, higher price rather than the price you originally agreed to pay...}}

True...

I think SG's customer service is slightly better than Cheaper than Dirt...but that doen't say much about SG's customer service.

I still patronize SG, but try to direct the bulk of my business to Miwall/Outdoor Marksman...with whom I have had a long and respectful working relationship with

Yup, that's common occurance with Sportsman's Guide. However, they don't bill your card until it ships, so it's not to big of a deal.

If you are in the South St. Paul MN area, they have a warehouse store/walk up/pick up you can go to. You can order from catalog/online item number, and they bring it out if it's in stock. You will pay Minnesota tax (6.5% on everything but food and clothing) but avoid shipping.

I do a majority of my ammo business with Miwall/Outdoor Marksman. The ammo they sell is good for the price. I buy from them at the gun shows I go to. I will have to email them and see if I can place an order of ammo and pick it up and pay for it at the gunshow.
