So a little ways back I got the fever for a revolver but it faded until last week when I missed out on a Colt Python in good condition for $700. I spent 10 minutes too long doing research and asking questions and somebody else walked off with it.

The fever is now back in full force and I dont think it will go away this time. This will be my first revolver and I feel like I am buying my first handgun all over again. I cant carry but it would be great to have one that fits in a pocket. Should I just pick up a quality snubbie .38 and call it a day? Any suggestions guys?

Planning to hold onto it and I am torn between 38 and 357. Good groups are always good. I realize any snubbie will only do that at a short distance.

Well, a guy at the range the other day was shooting some very nice groups with a Ruger SP-101 with Rem 125 gr. SJHP 357 Mag loads at 25 yards. The muzzle flash was impressive ! He was in fact shooting as good a groups, no, to be honest, better groups, than I was with my Vaquero in 44 Mag, albeit I was trying out some light 200 gr. 44 Special loads that neither me or the guns seem to like too much.
His was brand new, with the box sitting on the bench. 3" barrel.

Too bad Colt snake series is done making revolvers. That said, I suggest get at Ruger GP .357, and you can shoot .38 special though it as well.

My first revolver

My first revolver that I bought was a Colt Python, 6" Stainless. Smooth action and accurate out to fifty yards. Still have it. I keep it locked up in the safe.

I have a Rossi .38 2 inch that the wife and I use for home defense (If it gets stolen, it won't hurt like losing a more expensive firearm, which we keep in the safe). We've shot a lot of rounds through it, but much past 7-10 yards, accuracy is "problematic".

I'm currently seeking a good deal on a Glock 19, but after that I am going to be looking for a .38 or .357 with a 3 or 4 inch barrel to replace the Rossi. A bit more accuracy is what I would like. I came very close to buying a Ruger GP the other day, but the gunshop owner refused to budge off the price, and I think the GP might be a bit too big for the wife to shoot.

So, I'm looking at the Ruger SP or a Taurus. Might check out the gun shows for a used Smith too.

Well I just handled a Ruger SP101 and it felt pretty darn good in my paw. Unfortunately they do not have a rental I can shoot first. I like the feel though and think I will go back for it, forgot my wallet the first time!

You will be well served with that Ruger if you get it.
.357 snubbies are not fun guns..especially the airweight ones. They are ok with .38's,but still not for casual plinking or target shooting, imho

I to bought a colt python 6" blue new in 1978, wish i still had it had to let it go in 2005, money problems. ive owned a 2" barrel sp101 perfect for carrying in pocket not to heavy either, horrible for target shooting bought a ruger valquero, nice revolver,I was not to good with those old sites at hitting at 25yds.my favorite at present is a smith & wesson 686p 4" stanless 357 very easy to shoot and dead on at 25yds. I just purchased a 1978 colt trooper111 in a 6" blue .have not tried it out at the range, but if it shoots like my python did ILL be HAPPY!!!!:banghead::D

Bought the SP101, it has to live in the dealers safe for about 35 days. Looks and feels like a damn fine little revolver

Did you buy the 3" or the 2"?
I own, and daily carry that 3" .357 mag model, and that is one damn fine gun.
