Went shopping today. Dave's had a Five-Seven from several months ago, I went to check and see of a holster I had would fit it. That didn't work, but they have the gun, and said they still have ammo for it.

Went to the Trading Post, smaller place, generally have other stuff there. Looked at a few guns, hung around a bunch. I decided to ask him to price one, to see what he'd offer. He said he'd gotten back from Shot Show, and apparently there was a meeting from BATF somewhere in there. But he said that they were illegal now. The guns were still on the market, but they banned the ammo. Anyone here know more about this?

There is a type of ammo for the Five seveN that is coinsidered by the ATF to be armor piercing. I believe that's the original ammo that the gun was designed around.

The ball ammo in the brown boxes that I have seen is not. It's just kead core FMJ. I believe it was originally conceived as cheaper training ammo.

There was a bunch of hype because even the hollow point ammo could go through level II armor. That's the only reason I could see the ammo being banned.

Well, i believe that a decent hard-cast bullet from .44mag or a .454 will do the same, and with much more damage... so why not to ban these too? :neener:

And do not forget the rifle ammo, the .300WinMag will do wonders on a sofd bofy armor

Just kiddin...

Last I heard, there was talk about banning the civilian ammo as well (because of the reason above), but nothing has been finalized as far as I'm aware.

SS190 AP not available for civilian purchase, SS192 JHP OK as far as I know.

If you get one Gifted I want to shoot it! :D

It is not illegal, but it should be. It is made for no other reason than to kill people. I support the Second Ammendment, but this has no use for hunting. These kinds of assault weapons should not be allowed on the street. Won't somebody think of the children? It should be banned.

PS: I am being sarcastic here.

so I guess all the Five Seven owners are going to stock up on ammo. And sells of said pistol is going to go though the roof because of this hype.

Hi Guys,

Don't quote me exactly, but from what I remember, the SS192 ammo is a 28gr JHP at over 2000fps. AFAIK it is still legal ammo, but FN has voluntarily stopped importing it due to some recent publicity about the round being able to penetrate some level II armor.

They have announced new ammo, SS194, I believe, that will be 40gr at much lower velocities. I have not seen too much SS192 advertised anymore, at reasonable prices, that is.

Why bother? Get a CZ-52 or a nice Polish Toke and 7.62x25 ammo. It'll do close to the same thing for much less money.

Not, of course, that I would recommend shooting people. I am not. I suppose I just don't understand the whole FN love in the first place.

Everyone wants one because no one wants to have one, and it look cool. I very much doubt that people are buying it for it's body armor penetrating abilities.

plnkr 1234 has it right...it's bad publicity that caused FN to voluntarily stop exporting it to the US.

That being said...I'll repeat my Five-seveN wish...28 grain FMJ ammo from Federal/Rem/Win/Black Hills/Texas Ammo....whatever.

I got a FiveseveN when they first came out - nicely designed gun, but my range asked me to stop shooting it there because it was punching dimples in their backstop.
I think the round makes great sense in the P90, but I just don't see much use for it in a sidearm alone - so I sold it. Tokarev or 9x25 seems like a much better deal.

I was in Cheaper than Dirt about a week ago and they were selling it at $40/box :what: and there was a sign on the shelf saying that this was it and they weren't going to be getting anymore.

CZ 52 - No, that's a nice TARGET pistol. They can be made very accurate for close range TARGET shooting. It has a nice flat shooting trajectory. Perfect for silhouette shooting. And cutting through extra thick paper targets.

Sheesh you guys. Don't draw attention to this gun. They'll demonize it too... :D
