Do you have multiple guns in the same chamberings? If so, which chamberings and how many? And why?

I'm sure there are a lot of folks with multiple .45's, because they collect 1911 variants. Or multiple 7.62X29, because they collect AK variants. And multiple .22's is almost a given...

Me--I'm just trying to keep life simple by reducing my ammo inventory.

Although I'll confess--once I started reloading (because I inherited a wildcat), I don't care nearly so much about standard chamberings. I bought that K-31 because I could reload for it. And I came 'this close' to buying a 6.5X55. Probably will, sometime.

Anyway, whaddaya have multiples of? I have:

3X .22LR (rifles and handgun)
3X .308/7.62 NATO
2X .223
2X 9mm
2X.380acp
2X 12ga

.22 LR -3
30-06 -2 everyone needs an M1 and a bolt action 30-06
6.5x55 -2 (with another on the way) I like this caliber
8x57 -11 cheap and interesting
7.62x54 -3 see 8x57 above
7.5x55 -3 Rifles are too cheap to not buy multiple copies

more than I thought

.22LR x 3
.40 x 2
12ga. x 2

I had not even thought about .22 until I read Dave R's post, now after NO I'm thinking "I really should buy a few more bricks of .22LR" :uhoh:

.22 LR : 19 revolvers, pistols, and rifles

.22 WMR: one rifle and one pistol

9x19: 4 pistols

.38 Special: four revolvers (not counting the .357 Magnums below)

.357 Magnum: five revolvers and rifles

.45 ACP: eight pistols

12-gauge: two shotguns

28-gauge: three shotguns

Hmmm I have several 45's... a couple of 9's... a coule of .22's... two 30-06's...

I never looked at it that way.

45-70

i have several rifles in 45-70. i love shooting that big bore and the ammo is very reasonable. i have a B78, WIN. 1886, REMINGTON ROLLING BLOCK AND MARLIN 1895 COBOY.

-.357mag- I have three (used to have another, though never more than 3 at a time)

-22lr- I have two, one rifle and one handgun. I used to have 2 other rifles that have since been sold, though the most .22lr guns I've had at one time is 3.

For the future, once I have all I want, I'll have a few more in .22lr, .38spl, .357mag, .41mag, 9mm and .45acp (maybe another .40 or two also), but for now I only have multiple .22s and .357s.

Is there any practical reason to own more than 1 gun of a certain caliber at a time? (Other than you just want to, of course :D )

Practical? You want practical? Of course!

I have a 12ga. upland gun. SXS double. Don't get me started on why that's the perfect upland gun...

I also have a 12ga. duck gun. Set up for steel shot. Could also have a 12ga set up for defensive purposes, if I wanted...

Have a .308 hunting rifle. A .308 battle rifle. And a .308 milsurp, just for fun.

Have a .223 defensive rifle, and a .223 varmit rifle.

Have a 9mm "stubby" for CCW, and a 9mm full-size for defense and/or just for fun.

One caliber can be pretty versatile, and can benefit from multiple launching platforms...

18-9x18
8-45ACP
9-30 Carbine
Really the only caliber I have one gun for is the 7.62x25 and a 20 and a 410 shotgun. The rest are multable guns.

30.06
7.62x39
.223
38 Special
357 Mag
9mm
22 short & LR
.32ACP.
.380
40 S&W
12ga

I like this thread. Here is my list:

.44 Magnum = 2
9mm = 2
.308 = 2
8mm Mauser = 3
7.62x54R = 3

The last 2 entries are mostly due to having a C&R license.

.22lr
30-30
.308
.44
.45LC
.45-70 Gov.
12 ga.

As to quantities, let's just say I follow the orders given to Noah.
I can't help it if they breed....;>)

Alex, all I can add is this: If SHTF, and let's say your autoloader in .223 was your primary caliber and weapon, a backup rifle in same caliber would keep you in the fight, incase your gun jammed.

For cartridges in multiple guns, all I have is a Remington 870 and Liberty II coach gun, both in 12 gauge.

45ACP (3)
.22LR (3)
45Colt (3)
12Ga (8)
20 Ga (3)

Didn't realize I had so many 12Ga's. They're kinda like golf clubs though....
