I have stopped giving money to all of the so-called charities since I started work in LE. I only give money that I know is going directly to an agency (the Fill The Boot campaigns that many firefighters hold, or the BBQ plates that the local PD/Sheriff's offices hold). I did some research on the CFC when I was in the military and found that most of that money collected went to staff and overhead.

I used to give money to various police organizations for years. However, the two times in my life I needed police help they told me to "pound sound" so now when the solicitations come in I tell them to do the same.

my 1st "real" job was a telemarketer. it lasted all of about 4 hrs and i left. but we did the FOP thing, and it was definitely a scam. it was about 10 years ago and for some reason i thought it was less than 10% that went to real organization. our scripts told people their money was going toward families of officers killed in duty and everything else, and you could give different levels of contributions. it was pretty interesting though you never knew who would answer the phone or what they would say.

Within the last month I read an article where the Ass'n of Police chiefs and the FOP are very opposed to concealed carry in many states. I also believe they opposed Heller.
