That’s very interesting. I’m still only seeing 9mm and .40 listed under Gen5 on Glock’s site so I’m not sure what to make of that.

What makes the Gen 5 special/different/better in a G20/21?

A lot of it is personal preference. However, the Gen5 models feature the following: no finger grooves, front serrations, a slightly improved trigger (compared to Gen4).

As for the .45 and 10mm Gen5 Glocks, it is just special because it’s been years since the Gen5 was released for 9mm models so people have been hoping/waiting for other calibers to follow.

There's also the Breach Face Notch or Cut that improves ejection and most importantly for lefties like me, ambidextrous controls.

The trigger and the ambidextrous controls are the two biggest things for me.

Gen 5 is different with the slide coating, it’s a DLC finish I believe. Also has ambi slide stop, no finger grooves on the front strap, and later Gen 5’s feature a breach face cut that is supposed to help with ejection. (I’ve got 3 Gen 5’s, one with the cut and others without. They all work great, but the cut does seem to toss the brass considerably further). They say the barrels are more accurate but honestly I’m not good enough to realize the difference.

I will also say that the triggers feel a little better on them. Not sure why or if it’s different, but seems to me they feel a little different

The Gen 5 triggers are nice! They are the only ones I have that I haven’t altered by adding a Vickers or Apex flat-faced trigger. The rounded shape of the Gen 5 trigger, and its ability to “hide the dingus” so that thing doesn’t protrude at all when pulled, is why I haven’t touched them. (On a Glock 45 and 17X)

Stay safe.

C'mon Gen 5 G40 & G17L. I'm obsessed with longslides.
I just got a new batch of Gen4 Glock 40s in. I can't remember what the Gen5 10mm hold-up was. Something about 10mm pressure not getting along with a Gen5 part. But I don't think the Glock 40 even needs any updating. I don't mind the finger grooves because of the size, and the slide is such a bear you can manipulate easily. Every time I hold a Glock 40, despite not liking Glocks, I dig it even more.
