Greetings all, 1/31/12

I have been a fan of the SW 3rd gen pistols for a long time and was delighted when Coles Distributing put up a lot of SW 5904's on Gunbroker for prices in the low $200's (mine was $238). They have the square trigger guard and the aluminum frame has some holster wear but the internals are pristine- no wear at all on the camming surfaces of the barrel or frame. It looks like this is the proverbial gun which has been carried a lot and not shot at all.

So included in the case with the gun is a cleaning kit labeled in German:

1005-12-140-6481
REINIGUNGSGERAT, WAFFEN
1 SE

Inside the kit is a beaded chain which attaches to some brushes and is then pulled through the barrel.

So it looks like this lot of pistols came from Germany. I haven't heard of any German SW 5904's being reimported back here despite a Google search. I didn't know SW supplied any pistols overseas to Europe. Anyone else know anything about this lot of 5904's (my serial number is TEY58xx).

best wishes- oldandslow

Maybe the cleaning kit is the import? It's a NATO Stock Number for a cleaning kit which was produced en masse in Germany, which has showed up with everything from G3s to P38s and so on. Usually they see a little use then get repackaged with other weapons. Here's a document titled "Information About NATO Stock Number Placed on Early Post-War P38s" that mentions the cleaning kit specifically. Hope it's helpful, and that you find more information, soon. I've never given it much thought but my interest is piqued, so I'll be following this.

If your 5904 was imported in Germany it must have German proof marks on slide, barrel and frame. If it is a civilian market import - stamp of the importer as well.
