"The Glock is more reliable by a longshot" Sounds like fact to me. In the real world I personally don't believe this. I have owned both Glocks and Berettas for many years. I have seen the Glock fail both with limp wristing and with bad ammo. I have also seen the Beretta fail due to bad wolf ammo. I would trust both pistols with my life with good ammo. There are no longshot differences in reliability between the two. I suggest that we base opinions on experience of shooting both platforms rather than internet speculation. Ok, off my soapbox and back to my brewski. "All the way and then some" :)

Both are great guns.

I carried a Beretta for years in the military with no issues.

I carried a G17 for years as an LEO with no issues.

I currently carry a Glock 19 for CCW. I like the G17 but there is nothing a G17 can do that my G19 can't do.

The Glock 17 is double action only.
The BATFE SAYS that, but it's not really accurate. It's an entirely different sort of action. DA only guns can be recocked by only pulling the trigger. You have to pull the slide to the rear again on a Glock.

The Glocks are MUCH easier to shoot than any DA only gun. The trigger pull is usually much smoother and depending upon the connector, lighter. A DA only gun like a 96D may be safer for those who don't practice enough, but a Glock with anything lighter than a NY connector is MUCH easier to shoot WELL.

SIG P226 or the P229 in 9mm both excellent choices and IMO much better than the Glock or the Beretta.

I own a P229 9mm, a Beretta 92FS, and a Glock 19.

The Sig is the finest gun of the three in all respects, but a bit heavy for CCW.
The Beretta is a sweet shooter, but also a large gun.
The Glock 19 is just right for CCW, but not the shooter the other two are.

If you want the gun for carry, the Glock is the choice, but if you want a HD/range pistol, the Beretta would work fine.

My first full sized 9mm was a Glock 17. Never regretted that buy:) I can't speak for the Beretta but I do know that the Glock will go bang every time and I personally have never had any feeding issues.

Clash Of Titans!

Both are great options, I LOVE MY M9A1, but i have had some failures to cycle with the beast when it was dirty (200 rnds). It was with my wife and a buddy of mine shooting it. I personally had no problem, but i am adapt to stiff wristing with my Glock.

However I have never had a pistol that out of the box was such a nail puncher, the recoil is so smooth that you forget its a 9mm(not like a 9 has any real kick!!). But i havent put the kind of numbers through the beast to recomend it to you if this is going to be the weapon you would put your life, your familys life ,etc on the line with.

I also have a Glock 23 (.40 S&W) I have had it for 8+ years, I have used it for my duty carry weapon, i have 8000+ rounds through it with 2 FTF's that were caused by a weak mag spring... THAT IS THE ONLY PROBLEM EVER! I have shot it reliably with multiple types of ammo. The trigger caused some shot pulling problems that took me a while to overcome, but it just took some training (mental and range time.)

My duty carry weapon is a ISSUED Beretta 92D Vertec. I HIGHLY DONT RECOMEND ONE OF THESE! I have seen a lot of problems with these and for some reason they hurt my wrist after 10 shots???? i dont get this but ok!

But even though your comparison is between the two, Look at the Sigs, Browning highpowers(i recomend the old Belgium made version if you can find one that someone wants to part with and if you have the $$), Kimber 1911 9mm. JUST FIND ONE THAT FITS YOU! go to a large gun shop and put them in your hand when it feels rite thats you!

and me being a Glock man I have to say. DONT GO XD!:cuss:

BUT My vote goes GLOCK!!

The better choice would be Beretta 92fs VS Glock 17. I Have the G17, great gun for the money, a ugly horse and work everytime. 92fs is a piece of fine art with outstanding lines, fit and finsh and go bang all the time, if you will carry the gun sometimes, than as mentioned the G19 is not bad either.

I used to have a Beretta 92FS. It was my first handgun. It was very accurate, but was finicky with ammo. I sold it and bought a Glock 34 (the longer barreled version of the G17). It was more accurate, in my opinion. I don't enjoy cleaning my guns and I like knowing that the Glock will function whether I clean it or not.

I voted for the Beretta but to be fair I know nothing of the Glock I have never shot one when I was about 9 I put my last water pistol up and since I stop using water for ammo I have had no need to use a plastic gun. Come on glock guys it a joke dont get fire up.

be safe

I have owned both, recently sold the Baretta 92 because I shoot the Glock much better. The Glock is much more simple, but the 92 is an excellant pistol.

I vote for an M&P9. It is every bit as reliable and accurate as a Glock or Beretta. The ergos are fantastic. And its an American company.

The Beretta M9 feels too fat in my hand. The Glock grip chews into my hand and I hate finger groves. Like I don't know were to put my fingers. I want to decide where! :)

Anyway I highly recommend the M&P.

I think you should handle and shoot both, they are fairly different from each other. I have good experiences with the Beretta 92, It is accurate, durable, reliable and easy to field strip. I have mostly used it as a range gun and I have no complaints. I like the way it feels in my hand and I prefer metal guns. I have not as much experience with the Glock so I won't comment except to state the obvious, that lots of people like them especially as carry pieces. Go look at some guns and good luck.

I voted Glock 17 but you couldnt go wrong with either. I think the 92fs will be slightly more accurate though.

You should really check out other makes as well, if you havent already. Sigs, HK, S&W MP9, XD, and make sure you check out the CZ75 or 85. These are Fantastic guns in every way and look almost a sexy as the Beretta. I came VERY VERY close to buying one today but ended up with a 1911.

The Glock is more reliable by a longshot

bleh.. more reliable, maybe... my beretta has 4000+ rounds through it without a malfunction. I've seen both malfunction, both are rare.

2 very different guns, both are fine. I don't like the way glocks "feel". I also like a manual or backstrap safety. (like an XD or 1911)

I voted other since what your looking for is a house gun in 9mm. There are many fine brands out there that are available. I've carried Glock on duty, and I've owned Berretta in the 92SF etc. Go see what fits your hand the best, and not others opinions.

I have a bitter clinging loyalty to Beretta. My first lusting for a handgun came when I saw the Lethal Weapon movies as a kid and watched Riggs (Mel Gibson) wield his Beretta 92FS with amazing Hollywood gusto. Then my dad purchased one of the very first model 96's (the .40 cal version). This was the first handgun I got to shoot on a regular basis. I'd beg my dad to let me clean it when we got home and I'd always spend a little more time on it then the others.

I finally bought my own Italian 92FS less than a year ago. Out of all my handguns, it's the first one I pull out of the safe to just fondle and look at. It's rugged, reliable, and it's also a beautiful work of art. The same cannot be said about a Glock. I don't care how many times I see and/or hold/shoot a Glock, they make my stomach turn. Nasty things. You either love Glocks or hate them. I think you can guess where I stand.

*revives*

a question...

I plan on getting a handgun soon for my 21st b-day present (a gift from me to me), but I havent fondled either in awhile, so I thought I'd ask for a few opinions:

How would you compare the trigger/trigger pull on both the glock and the Beretta/M9? lighter, heavier, longer, shorter, etc? I'll probably find out when I go to the shop next time I get to shoot, but thought I'd ask in case someone can point out some things to look for.

.

Many people complain about the Glock trigger, and I can see why. If you're
not used to it, it can be irritating and I have even read that it hurts after
a while. I have not experienced this phenomenon with mine, but that is
because I am accustomed to it. If you practice with it, you don't even
notice it after a while.

My vote goes for the Glock 17. Glock may have their detractors, and
perhaps there is some value in these objections, but 9mm pistols is one
thing that Glock has down cold. They feed anything and are accurate
enough.

"The one that fits best" is the correct answer, though.

Timely question. Shot both at the range today, my g17 and a buddies Beretta. The Beretta slide locked up on a spent casing and took some serious muscle to get it to clear. Didn't like the cheap Remington yellow box UMC but the Glock ate everything it was fed. Like the sights better on the Glock as well. Both are good pistols but I voted for the Glock.
