I currently own a Sig P226 and want to add another 9mm to my arsenal. I can't decide between a Glock 17 or Beretta. I know it is all preference but I am looking for reliability, ability to add a light/laser and ease of finding parts.

Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks

Sorry but that's your choice to make. Mine would be the 92 FS.

ability to add a light/laser and ease of finding parts.

Most Beretta's don't have the front rail. So you may want to look at one of these.

My choice.

Glock would be cheaper, tons of aftermarket and parts and a possible argument for more reliable. I would go with which ever feels better and fits with in the budget best. Both are good choices. For the rail you will need the 92A1 I believe. If Shipwreck is kind enough he will display his Wheel o' Berettas for you to become jealous over.

92A1 or M9A1 both have rails....

I can't decide between a Glock 17 or Beretta.

I prefer the Beretta to the 17. Both are big guns, but the Beretta just feels right to *me*. Ive never had any issues from 92's I've owned. Owning them in one form or fashion since 86.

You've chosen a tough choice :). If you go Beretta, I'd go with an A1 designation so you have the rail. However if you come across a great deal on a non-railed model check out this mount: http://www.trgear.com/osc/eshop/default.php/cPath/152_124

I have a Glock 22 and a Beretta 92FS Brigadier (no rail). They are my two favorite pistols. My G22 is for duty and my 92 takes "night stand" duty.

The one difference between the two if you're looking at SD/HD purposes is simplicity. The Glock doesn't have decocks and manual safeties to worry about. IMO the Glock's simplicity seems better suited to stressful situations. Not that a SA/DA weapon can't get the job done, there's just more features to have a brain fart with.

Love the Beretta 92 FS, but I cannot operate the slide mounted safety/decocker, so I found someone to take it out of my safe. SIG P226 always shot better for me anyway. Like my Glock G17, just a very good tool, it sits on my night stand with a Surefire X400 light/laser. Recently went to my local club to shoot at the steel plate racks (6 plates 8" diameter at 10 yds). Took several pistol including the G17 with light, no wonder using a light attached to a pistol is not allowed in Steel Challenge matches. Using a shot timer with pistol laying on bench, average time to mow down the plates was 3.41 sec. This was on par with a Glock G34, sometimes faster, get the Glock you will not have a show piece, just a shooter, a really good shooter.

I've had them both. I still have the M9. It truly is a pure preference decision. Both have similar accuracy, capacity, size, parts availability .... Glock will have the rail and no manual safety (don't get all technical on me.... I'm aware of Glock safeties). Personally, I like the lines of the Beretta without tacti-crap hanging from it, so if the rail is the deal breaker I'd get the Glock.

I've owned and used both for many years. I much prefer the consistent trigger pull on the Glock to the DA/SA Beretta. And the slide mounted safety on the Beretta has to be one of the most un-ergonomic features ever imagined on a firearm.

I've owned both for me the glock was more comfortable and I was able to shoot it better, while I feel that the beretta looks better the grip was too bulky for my taste and it didn't seen to shoot all that well. Both functioned perfectly.

I liked the Beretta 92FS I owned for a couple years a lot...until I found I like the Glock 17 a lot more. I traded straight across for an OD Glock 17.

For me personally, I prefer my Glock 17 Gen 3 to my Beretta 92F. The Glock has few parts, even fewer 'wear' parts, and I shoot the Glock better than the 92F. The Beretta wins in the looks department though....for whatever that's worth.

I like the compact Glocks like the 19 and 23. If I were going for a full size 9mm, it would be the Beretta or P226....or of course the Hi-Power

Two very different guns. One is metal and the other is polymer. One has an external safety and the other does not. Very different triggers as well. Both will be reliable. Lights and lasers available for both, with Beretta you will have to get an A1 model or get a grip laser. Off the shelf parts will probably be a little easier to find for the Glock, but there are plenty of available parts for Beretta as well.

These are two guns that should be fairly easy to rent and try for yourself. If I were you that is what I would do. Then pick the one that feels and shoots better for you.

I like my Glocks, but only the compacts and subcompacts. The full size Glocks don't feel right to me.

The Beretta is awesome and I shot mine really well. I just never liked that slide mounted safety that is counterintuitive to everything else I own.

Overall, your choice. But if I were only going to own one Glock, it would be a 19

Striker vs da/sa. Polymer vs metal. People say the glock rocks in terms of reliability. I served with the Beretta and while I like Sig better the Beretta rocks. The problem I have with glocks now is they are slipping from the market. Most QUALITY handguns made today are on par with glock. Glock isnt number 1. The gen 4 was a pathetic attempt to revolutionize the market. M&P is gaining ground quickly and if I would choose it over glock today. Others say If it aint broke dont fix it. Yet there are issues (though subtle). I dont hate glock, my favorite .40 is my g23, but they need to play catchup. For full-sized between the two I prefer Beretta.

Also try to broaden you horizons just a bit. :)

I agree with the "whatever feels and fits best meme". One note, the 92 has a far bigger grip than the Glock. I've always been impressed by the fit and finish on the Berettas, but never been able to fit one. But all things being said my Glock 19 is ever bit as good a shooter as my Kimber Pro CDP. The advantage of aftermarket support and reliability makes the Glocks a great platform (perhaps the best?) in 9mm. The dang things just work.

I love my 92FS, and the Glock grip angle is something I can't ever get used to. Even after several hours of practice I kept pointing the pistol upward because of it. I have to actively focus on just that so I don't enjoy that as much.

Both are accurate, reliable, and have plentiful parts available. Both are easy to clean, maintain & will hold their value.

But my god man, my question to you is, who would you rather hold in your hand Chastity Bono or Angelina Jolie. Buy the Beretta!

If you own a Sig you probably won't really care as much for the Beretta. They are good reliable guns, but a step below the Sig. I'd save some change and buy a Glock to go with the Sig.

I prefer the glock, but it has to do with my general disdain for manual safeties on non SA pistols.

Both are high quality, parts a plenty, accurate, etc. You just need to decide if you want an apple or an orange.

I carried Uncle Sam's Beretta M-9 for the better part of 20 years in the USAF. As a reliable, easy to shoot, side arm, it worked well. In my opinion it is too big of gun to conceal carry. If you are in a Hollywood movie the the bad guy could "Beretta slap" the slide off or your pistol.....yeah right....
For a gun to add to your collection right next to a 1911 go for it. If you want a daily carry piece get a Glock 19.
