I own one handgun, a Glock 19. I've owned tons over the years, but shoot much less now (unfortunately) than I used to. I like the 19, it seems to be the best compromise between concealment, affordability and performance over any other "one-gun" solution (IMO).

However, living in the South, I'd really like something I can pocket carry when it's warm out and the 19 is just too big. I've been looking hard at the new Ruger LCR revolvers but I hate to buy another caliber which is so close to what I have now. In my way of thinking, I'd rather "spread out" my range of calibers. Not that there's any real logic to this, but it just seems the thing to do.

So how about it, put yourself in my position and what would you do? Keep the 19 and buy the Ruger? Sell the 19 and buy the more concealable Ruger and then later add say, a 1911 or something else? Or, keep the 19 and just figure out how to conceal it in a bathing suit! ;)

Thanks for the input!

The 19 is not that hard to conceal. Maybe a Glock 26 would be easier since youre used to the Glock ergonomics.

There's tons of smaller 9 mm out there if you want pocket carry.

The Glock 19 is a great gun. I wouldn't part with it unless absolutely necessary.

The Kel Tec P3AT and Ruger LCP are great "pocket" pistols which would work well for concealment in warmer weather. The caliber is .380 for those guns.

A co-worker of mine just picked up a Kel Tec P3AT for about $200 including shippping and FFL transfer fees. His pocket holster set him back another $20. The holster he selected fits in the back pocket making it look like his wallet.

It might be hard to find a 9mm "pocket" pistol that doesn't leave a noticeable bulge in your pocket.

Good luck!

I was in a similar situation to you - have a G19 but wanted something that I could carry in my pocket. I went through a number of guns - P3AT, S&W642, Kahr PM9. I probably carry the PM9 the most, followed by the 642. At one point, I was going to just trade my G19 for a PM9 since I'd probably carry it more. However, I'm glad that I didn't because I still enjoy shooting my G19 a lot. I even got a second one for my wife.

So, keep the G19 and get something else to pocket carry. You might consider some other options beyond the LCR.

I am kind of in the same boat as you are. I am leaning towards getting the G19 except i feel it may be a little to big. So i actually looked at the Kahr CW9 the other day and it absolutely can be pocket carried.

Not sure what i am going to do, but i am leaning towards the 19.

Check out the comp-tac holsters. Its amazing how comfortable and concealable they make a glock 19.

I like my surplus p64 for pocket carry. I'd recommend that. 9mm Mak is cheaper than .380 and it is a bit more powerful. It's also da/sa with a decocker safety. I don't want "safe action" pistol in my pocket, even in a pocket holster. You can get one delivered to your door with a C&R for $200ish and new set of springs for another $20.

I say buy what ever sounds good now and keep the 19. Then, later, if you want a 1911, get that too. Sounds like a plan.

Lot's of good advice, but the general consensus seems to be to keep the 19 (figured as much from a bunch of fellow gun nuts! ;) and then just pick up something else to pocket carry. I'll check out the LCR and LCP and the ballistics of the 38 compared to 380.

Seb, that p64 is real interesting too, hmmm, choices, choices!

Thanks guys, keep the input coming and we all learn!

I would absolutely keep the 19 for those days when you can carry it. I would get the LCR or a j frame as well. I've never carried an LCR, but a j frame is the perfect pocket gun IMO. I'm sure the LCR is similar.

The CW9 is a nice balance between concealed carry and shootability at the range. Light, fairly thin and you can still get all three fingers on the grip.

Check out the Kahr PM9,I love mine.

I regularly carry a Glock 19 IWB. I also pocket carry (with one of my handmade pocket holsters) an S&W Model 36.

If I were you, I'd keep the Glock and buy the LCR. Pocket carry is EXTREMELY convenient when you KNOW you're going to have to disarm. Disarming and rearming is MUCH easier with a pocket holster than with a tuckable IWB.

I'm leaning hard towards the LCP right now. It's smaller than the LCR (a good bit thinner/flatter, too) and even though the .38 Special gas a little better ballistics, I think a .380 ACP is better than not carrying at all.

Thanks guys!
