I have a circa 1998 or 1999 Glock 19 that hasn't even had the Factory Firing Pin Assembly Upgrade. It has a very low round count and I have original box.

Is there any collectors value in NOT sending it to Glock for the upgrade?

Do early Glocks have any collectors value at all?

Should this be a shooter or a safe queen?

Thanks.

I got an old school 2nd gen G17 from '98 that could use upgrade. I never bother. :) The gun works 100%, so if it doesn't break...

I couldn't give you an accurate collector value, but first gen. Glocks in very good condition rate full NIB modern prices to me (about $525 or so).

A true first gen. 19 is very rare. They'll have the smooth pebble grip as seen in the pic. Only a few were made in the late 80's.
Your '98 or '99 is a second generation gun. Upgrade as you see fit, it won't increase or decrease the value of yours.....tom

TomKatz (May I call you F-14 for short?),

Excellent graphic of the Glock generations!

Do you have anything that breaks the gun generations down by serial number or dates of manufacture?

Do you have date of manufacture information (and graphics) for Glock mag generations?

Thanks,

Perp

If you have a tru first gen G19, it's value would be quite high. But as stated above, there are very few around (less than 20, I believe). The upgrade is up to you, but won't affect value. I wouldn't "safe queen" it. Use it, it's a great pistol.

Pardon my tears. Mine is a 2nd generation.

Are there any differences other than the grip and rails between 2nd and 3rd generation?

If the Glocks mentioned are '98, instead of '88, there's nothing rare about them at all.

I would think it would be hard to find a buyer who would pay a "high" price for a first generation Glock. They are still only about 20 yrs old, and I don't think there are many people out there yet who are interested in collecting Glocks.

That may change over time, but right now Glocks are just for shooting for almost everyone interested in them.

I disagree, Lone Gunman. A true first gen G19 is a very rare pistol and I suspect it would command a much higher than normal Glock price. Would it be worth it? Is any "collectable" really worth it to the average buyer. Now if you were just talking a "plain" old first gen G17, I agree, you wouldn't really get a premium price on one of those.

glocker 1911 is correct, the 19 in first gen. configuration is IMO just about impossible to find. I saw an unfired example at glocktalk once and it went for $600.00 plus shipping in 15 minutes.
I'm a glockaholic so for me it would be the holy grail of collectible glocks, for someone who isn't I guess it would be just a gun:D

Well......people collect state teaspoons, bottle caps, extra long french fries.....for me, a first gen glock fits in that category.

The guy who bought the one for six bills told me via pm he would have gone as high as $750.00.
You could sell several at glocktalk for $600.00 a pop for sure.
A very busy local shop here has at least one employee who told me he'd pay $700 for a perfect one, but you just don't see this gun. They have to come with the properly numbered first gen box and the original manual to be worth the higher prices as well.
Here's my 1st gen. 17....it needs a little 1st gen. brother:( .....
