Glock 380 Why now?

My guess is that it's intended to fill the same niche as the Ruger LC380 (NOT the Ruger LCP). A small, but not micro-, .380 that should be fairly shootable, should have an easy to rack slide and relatively light recoil for a compact self-defense pistol.

By the way, if you look at the app for slickguns.com. I did see the new Glocks as well as a limited pre order on the Remington 9mm last week.

I've seen a lot of publicity on that new remmie. Looks like a real winner. And I'm going to HAVE to take a closer look when I can get my hands on one.
But NO, I'm not giving up my Walther.

Armor,

It will be very interesting to see the sales numbers come out in a few years so we can compare. My opinion is the Glock will beat the Remington at least 2 to 1 if not 3 to 1. While the R1 may be a bit smaller, the Glock name will carry the 42 a long way.

I hear that. Just think they really dropped the ball. As others have said, should have been a 9mm.
I do think producing the G28 here is a great idea they should consider.

Here is one more R51 comparison pic.
I for one am sold on one.

I think a lot of guys (myself included in this) who thought they'd never own or wanted a glock might spring for this one as a possible cheaper entry into checking them out...If you buy it and don't care for it,not a lot of cash invested and should have no problem offing it... All in all I don't see it as a fail for them...I think they knew this would stir up a lot of fresh interest in their products ...just a thought..

As a trainer, I will echo the responses about the G42 finding a market with older generation customers who cannot tolerate the harsher recoil of mini-9s due to weak, arthritic hands.

The G42 in 380 will provide them with other options, especially the fact (reported) of very mild recoil.

I would be willing to bet that we will see a mini-9 from Glock at some point in the near future.

Well said and completely agreed with. I'm a recent Glock-O-Phile converted by the G26. Those who really want a thin 9mm from Glock will see one in a year tops. Me? I'm shooting my G26 and will not need a thinner, smaller 9mm.

Thinner smaller .380? Now yer talking...if I make another Glock purchase it will be a G42. Otherwise the next Glock I'm likely to buy would be a G19 or a replacement G26 when this one wears out.

But I'll likely be dead by then.... ;)

VooDoo

At first I felt let down. Then I got to thinking what would I need a little 380 for?
I'm thinking one as a backup would be nice.
But really I love to carry when I work out either at a gym or jogging.
My 27 does of in a belly band but it's a tad heavy for fast moving.

Plus considering most 380's have horrible triggers I assume I could put a Ghost Edge in these and get the same amazing trigger I have in my other Glocks.
Then the smaller mag capacity wouldn't be too bad because single stacks would be easy to pocket.
Or maybe the wife would prefer this over her new 26 for a purse gun?
Plus I think with the better ammo these days you'd be ok as long as you had a couple mags.
But I'm a 40 fan, so it's hard to go smaller. The wife's 9's look pretty cute in comparison.

Why period? Holster size Glocks are are already a safety hazard with their "un-Safe Action Trigger System". But now a pocket size? I see many more cases of Glock-leg coming.

Explain... Obviously you haven't much experience first had with Glocks
The gun won't go off unless you pull the trigger. I've even dropped mine several times while it was empty to try and get it to dry fire it's self. NOTHING. it simply won't go off.
I've even asked it, I said "Glock, SHOOT!" Nothing! I even asked my sister who is a witch to use her black magic. Still no accidental discharges. AMAZING!
I carry my Glocks full loaded. The only time the chamber is empty is between reloads, training and cleaning.
You just have to remember to keep a high trigger finger when you draw and holster. Like any pistol it has to be kept in a holster if it's loaded. Basic safety. So obviously no one is actually going to be stupid enough to drop a hot Glock into their pocket without something to cover atleast the trigger guard! Come on people!
I'll admit I'm a reformed Glock hater. I started with an XDM then I caved and bought my 27. I found that the Glock had a better trigger and I could actually upgrade the trigger cheaper, myself along with the sights. I no longer own a Springfield.

I don't mind someone saying they prefer a different brand. Good on ya. But when you make a false statement against a brand, that's not right.

As for "Why now?", has anyone asked Glock? Everyone is asking about it and I'm sure Glock's PR people will provide an answer.

Because Glock is also looking internationally, in countries where it is illegal for civilians to own 9x19mm pistols but legal to own .380ACP pistols.

From Glock.com:

GLOCK 25

Mild mannered Glock

The GLOCK 25 with the low-recoil .380, introduced in 1995 during the IWA show in Germany, was mainly developed for the South American market in mind, where civilian personnel are not allowed to possess handguns in military calibers. Because of its small dimensions, corresponding to those of the GLOCK 19, the GLOCK 25 can be comfortably carried concealed.

My LGS, as of yesterday, has Blazer Brass and aluminum, Speer Lawman FMJ and Gold Dot JHP, American Eagle FMJ, and white box FMJ...and looking online, there is 380 available for order.

Why a glock 380?

Why not?
While I'm not a glock guy, a couple reasons spring to mind from the outside looking in..
-everybody else has one, and the market is going that way
-how many different "generations" of the same standard, compact and microcompact 9mms can you make and sell?
-female market
-CCW market

At least is not another proprietary cartridge that you can't find....

If you think 380 was hard to find before, just wait. I know someone is going to say it's all over the place. The fact is that in some states like FL, it isn't. I don't even own a 380 anymore but still have a few boxes of it just in case one falls into my lap. Including 5 or 6 boxes of the hollow points, like Corbon, and Hornaday. But I keep ammo for several calibers I no longer shoot including 32 and 38
