Rationalizing the arsenal to two working gun platforms and calibers for end of the world and keeping my wife happy....

Platform #1 is the 1911 in 45acp. Number two was gonna be the Glock 19, 9mm. I have one 19, and I'm looking for a second. I got to hold and dry fire a 239 today, and really liked the fit in my hand, and the trigger pull.

As I see it...

Glock pros- cost, availability, reliability, mag capacity
Glock cons- ugly with so-so ergonomics, trigger, and accuracy

Sig pros- ergonomics, trigger, looks:cool:
Sig cons - cost

Anybody who owns/shoots both have any insight? How is the Sig accuracy compared to the Glock?

the glock 19 is a very good gun and mine shoots very good i heard to 229 was a good shooting gun they are both good gun i like the glock because of its price i no the sigs are good but the price is to high for me i think the glock 19 is the best glock 9mm and one of the best 9mm made today

I have to say I like the Sig. You can't beat the fit and the feel. If you can shoot a Glock, more power to ya. Glocks just don't feel right to me.

If you're only going to go TWO handgun platforms and already have one filled, pick the gun you like and want, regardless of cost.

I picked up a used Sig P226 Bi-Tone in .40 with factory installed Crimson Trace laser grips for $640. Buying pre-owned sure helps witht he pricepoint. I plan on getting at least a couple more Sigs. I'd get a dozen more if I could, but alas, there are a whole lot of other guns I 'need' too. :)

Sig pros- ergonomics, trigger, looks accuracy, reliability, customer service, combat proven
Sig cons - cost

Sigs are VERY accurate. I've not had any reliability issue with them. They are at least as reliable if not more reliable than a Glock. Sig customer service has been great to me.

After shooting both as rentals before buying (always recommended) I went with Sig 226 9mm over all others for the stupidest reason, it had a hammer. I already owned a Kimber 1911 so like you I wanted to expand, the Sig just felt right, and it shoots like a dream, the Glock felt like the Nintendo Wii controller imho. ;)

That being said is a Glock 19 goes on sale soon it might become my 3rd Auto.

Your average Sig will exceed the mechanical accuracy of a Glock by a measurable margin.

In terms of reliability, there are tons of Internet torture tests but Sigs are actually much more combat proven with real battlefield use. Neither will leave you wanting in this department.

The only advantage a Glock has over a Sig is the higher bore axis on most Sigs. This is also a disadvantage that HK has.

In every other measure, the Sig P229/P226 is a superior firearm.

Get both.
They are both excellant pistols. I bet if you get one now, you will end up getting one later anyway.

Totally different style designs for totally different style shooter.

Some people severe for the Glock trigger, especially its trigger reset, so the practical accuracy they experience with the Glock, while they hate the amount of take up and long trigger reset of the SIG pistols making them pretty impractical for them. Also they can not stand the two different type of triggers to master, especially the trigger combination with a long and heavy first DA pull followed by a lighter and shorter SA pull.
They enjoy the tupperware lightness, corrosion resistance, most importantly the compactnes holding considerable amount of ammo.
They also hate the higher bore axis of the SIG pistols.

Some people severe for the smooth take up of the SIG triggers, especially in the SA pull, and the intrinsic mechanical accuracy combined with the trigger.
And think that it is not a problem to master a trigger with two different type of pulls. They also feel more confident carrying a totally uncocked pistol compared with the 40 % cocked pistol.
They like the metal feel and confidence of their pistols, and do not mind the heft added for them to carry. They also hate the grip angle of the Glock pistols which is supposed to be designed for the apes according to theirHO.
They also think that the high bore axis issues are totally BS as stated by Bruce Gray.

These are the things I remember that many afficanados speak.
You should try each brand, in different times and different places with different people and decide that what kind of afficanado you are by yourself.

The Glock is a superior weapon to the Sig for less. Sigs are overrated IMO. I'll take the Glock 19 over any sig, any day. There's a reason why some people on 15 Glocks.

Wow, now I know that Glocks are superior to Sigs.

Personally I prefer the Sig but I must be wrong and should probably give my Sigs away. Actually, I'm looking very seriously at making a 239 my next buy...

I prefer SIG's for one simple reason...I shoot them better. I have two vintage SIG's (P220 and P226) and plan on picking up a P6 in the next few months. Every Glock that I have tried (models 17, 21 and 22) I cant hit the side of a barn!!! Its killing me since I have a Keltec Sub2K that takes glock 22 mags and no glock 22 to go along with it;)

I have a sig 228 for nearly 12 years. It shoots great first round is DA then single after that. It is one of the most accerate guns I have ever owned or shot.I just purchased a glock 36 about 3 weeks ago(it is now my carry gun). The trigger pull is alittle different but easy to get used to .I have put about 250 round through it and I see no difference in the accurracy from the 2 guns.A small advantage the glock has over the sig is it is lighter to carry but it should not facter in your purchase since my 228 is also easy to carry..Other than that I don"t think you could go wrong with either.
Good luck in your decision.

i think, if its between Glock and SIG you can`t really go wrong

pick the one you like the best.

NOTE: my opinion comes SOLELY from readin, and reading, and reading, and reeaaadiiing, on THR :p so its not really worth anything.

I have both Glocks and West German SIGs (220 and 226) you can flip a coin to choose between Glock and SIG in my honest opinion. I would probably choose the Glock 19 as a trouble free snagless little 9mm. They cost less, too.

I have both guns, and the Sig is more accurate for me. I do shoot my G23 as well as the 239. The Sig is slightly smaller, and heavier, but the single stack grip is way eaiser to hide. Both guns would serve you well:)

Both are very proven guns....I have never had a Glock fail but have had a Sig quit...

If its going to take a beating I'll take the Glock finish also, Sigs wear very quick.

Sig 220 shoots great.

You cant go wrong with either (or both)

Sigs wear out very quickly

I'd be interested to hear more about this. Which Sig in what caliber?

I ask because other than a problem Sig had in the late 80's early 90's with rails cracking, I've not since heard that there are any issues or that they wear fast. Of course there may be isolated cases, but I don't think your blanket statement that they Sig wear fast is accurate.

I own both a Glock and a Sig... the Sig (IMO) is head and shoulders better than the glocks... Glocks are great, very dependable, etc... but sigs have the same dependablity, shoot better, feel better, etc... just my opinion. This is certainly a case of "you get what you pay for"

There's a reason why some people on 15 Glocks.

Well, there are some people who own 16 SIGs, so that acutually makes them better than Glocks. ;)

There is no rational objective reason to choose either one over the other. They are both good pistols. Decide whichever one you and your wife like for whatever irrational or subjective reasons you like, and you will be happy.

I have a 239 and carry it quite often...great shooting gun, feels great in my hands...my other carry gun? a g30...also great shooting, fits my hands great...:)

I was thinking about what you said though...seeing as you have one 19, it would probably make more sense to get a 2nd 19 because you would have 2 identical pistols...same mags, parts, etc. if something happened and you had to bug out quickly...just my .02 cents...:)
