Glock SF Pistols

Do Glock Short Frame pistols have magazine compatibility with regular (non SF) pistols. Ie can a 20SF use the same magazine as a Glock 20?

I can say with certainty that Gen III Glock 21sf takes the same mags as a the standard frame Glock 21.

I thought the non-SF models would take the SF mags, but that the SF models would not take the older non-SF mags, but that all the new magazines were the same?

Whatever the case I recommend the SF models over the regular models unless you have really big hands. I have a buddy with a regular G20, and my G20SF has a better feel to it, and he even agrees.

That may be so. I know of only one 21 mag that can be bought new but there could be older ones that are different. I have a number of mags i bought used as well without issue but there may be an older style that i haven't run across.

Glock magazine compatibility is dependent upon the type of magazine release on the Glock.

Glocks with the standard mag release can use all (1st-4th) generations of Glock magazines.

Glocks with the ambi-mag release can only use the newer (3rd-4th) generations of Glock magazines.

Glocks with the reversable mag release set up on the standard side can use all (1st-4th) generations of Glock magazines.

Glocks with the reversable mag release set up on the non-standard side can only use the newest (4th) generation of Glock magazines.


Even though there are technically nine generations of Glock magazines, it's common to simplify them down to four generations.
1st gen = NFML
2nd gen = FML
3rd gen = FML with ambi-mag release cut
4th gen = FML with ambi-mag release cut & reversable mag release cut


Except for two variants of the Glock 21SF, all SF Glocks have the standard mag release.
Glock 21SF with picatinny rail & ambi-mag release (discontinued)
Glock 21SF with glock rail & ambi-mag release (discontinued)

All MB Glocks have the ambi-mag release.

All Gen4 Glocks have the reversable mag release.
