So the coiled "S" spring in the back of the frame is broken. I didn't even notice except that the trigger doesn't always reset on mag changes.

I called Glock and they want me to send the gun in or take it to an authorized dealer. Sending the gun in is expensive and there are no authorized dealers close to me. Also the gun was used and has some aftermarket parts, slide release, trigger bar etc.

The spring looks easy to replace online but where do I get one?

Will Glock send me the part? I looked at buying it but Glockmeister and Brownells wanted a ridiculous amount for shipping for just the spring.

I may have to just add some mags or other parts and order it.

Thanks

Will Glock sent you the part...dunno? Did you ask them when you had them on the phone?! :scrutiny:

Buy online. As you said, throw a few other goodies in your cart to make it worthwhile.

Glock won't send the part to you. You'll need a 3/32 inch punch like the Glock Armorer's Tool to detail strip the frame.

Here are some resources to show you how to detail strip:

On the following page are some Glock Armorer's Manuals, just scroll down to the "G" section. I learned from the Update Manual and 2009 Manual. The 2009 Manual has a few pages missing, but that info can be found in the Update Manual as well.

Here's an easy way to disassemble and reassemble the firing pin assembly:

Slide Stop change/install: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQbYqWBLa9w
(^^^DO NOT use a mallet to force the pins, move the slide stop forward and backward, up and down, until the trigger pin slides relatively freely through)

NOTE: Older followers attach to the spring by putting the end of the magazine spring coil through a plastic loop on the bottom of the follower(like the follower you see in the above video). The newest followers don't have that loop, they simply have two plastic ledges to hold the spring in place, so pull the spring out of the follower until it "pops" out of the follower and push the spring into the bottom of the follower until the spring "pops" into place in the bottom of the follower.

Here's a video showing how to change the magazine catch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE_AM6GWVsQ
(removing all of those other parts is not necessary, I guess he does it just to get them out of the way) I'd wrap the screwdriver lightly in masking tape or thin electrical tape so it doesn't scratch any plastic. Better yet, use something with a rounded end like a curved dental pick. If you need to change the mag catch spring, you can use a pair of needlenose pliers to pull the spring out and push the new one in, I'd wrap the pliers lightly in masking tape as well.

There isn't a very good video for removing the slide lock and slide lock spring. You can use the Glock tool(3/32 inch punch) to depress the spring while you remove the slide lock, but removing the spring ideally you need something thinner like a 1/16 inch punch or even thinner. To remove the slide lock you push the spring down closest to the slide lock, while holding the spring down you tilt the frame to the side and wiggle the slide lock around until it falls out. Then you put the thin punch under the slide lock spring from the rear of the frame, move the tip of the punch up to where the spring goes into the frame, and gently incrementally work the spring upward. Take note of which way the spring goes back in. When putting the slide lock back in, it should be positioned like this: http://tinypic.com/r/2zxw6s1/7

Impossible, glocks don't break. Yeah, I'm mocking you fanboys. Have you looked at replacing it with an after market spring? I hear great things about Wolff's springs for glock.

Spyder1911, have you had it apart? Sure it is the trigger spring? The trigger spring needs to be turned a certain way. The spring must hook at the front, hook up, to function properly. Maybe they installed it wrong when they installed the other prts.

I would say it has been re-assembled incorrectly. Post up your location and ask for a G-armorer's assistance.

I have never seen that spring "broken" just from shooting.

Glock trigger springs do break, not often but it happens. They recently redesigned their trigger bars so that the portion of the trigger bar that the spring attaches to is now curved so that the two parts have more surface area contact. If any part in a Glock is going to break, it'll be the trigger spring or the older slide lock springs.

Using one of the newer trigger bars likely won't make much difference though, the point on the trigger housing that the trigger spring attaches to is still a small singular contact point.

If you want a more reliable combination, you can use a factory "minus" connector with an NY1 trigger spring. It'll give a trigger pull of about 7lbs instead of the 5.5lbs you'd have with the standard connector and trigger spring.

voyager4520, wow thanks. Looks like I will need to order that spring then.

The spring is in two pieces hanging inside the frame from the two contact points, I'm pretty confident it's broken.

I believe that the previous owner replaced the trigger bar. Not sure if its Glock "-" or an aftermarket one but the trigger pull was nice.

I'm not crazy about the Glock but I shoot it well and it has decent capacity and aftermarket support.

The gun would actually function with the spring broken as long as the trigger was held back while the slide cycled, i.e. the normal way when shooting. The slide then reset the trigger so it is only noticed on magazine changes.

I am in Glock Talk as well, and Voyager has helped me multiple times, with multiple issues. He is a "Glock expert" IMO. His like the Google for Glock info!

"Wolff Gunsprings "Glock Trigger Group Competition Pak" "

Agreed. Good stuff right there!

I dropped that combo into my duty Glock 23 and shot in the NRA PPC Nationals last Sept. Took 4th place in Stock Service Pistol with it and was quite happy since everyone else was shooting expensive tricked out 1911 style 9mm's. The trigger made all the difference and it was legal under the rules (3.5 lb min.)

The stock Glock night sights were another matter. The fat front sight pretty much covered the whole target at 50 yds. :uhoh:
