HGM, there's some good info in the responses here if you can get past some of the quips. I have gotten away from carrying a gun in the car because I've come to terms with just how little security that offers. That's my personal choice.
Before that, I carried an AK in an old tennis racket case... sorta disguised. If you are intent on carrying a gun, do consider carrying it someplace other than your glove box... on the other hand, a thief is likely to look in any other accessible places too. I have seen specially designed plastic McDonald's cups that hold a gun. Also, folded newspaper holsters.
Remember, if/when something bad does go down, it will happen so quickly that you are not likely to have time to do any loading. Maybe not even time to reach for the thing. This is the reason soldiers always are required to have their rifles within arm's reach. You just usually don't get any warning before trouble strikes. I received a little training on a kubotan once and even then the trainer said, you must learn to carry the kubotan in your hand all the time - otherwise you won't get to it in time. Very sobering.
Okay, now that I've said my peace, to the gun choice. If you want to put it in the car and basically forget it, consider getting a revolver in stead of an auto. They are better suited to withstand neglect (i.e no lubrication). If you're willing to put a little lube on it from time to time, the auto should do fine.
For me, I like the full-power 9mm rather than the 9X18. But that being said, I believe the CZ82 is a fantastic pistol. My only suggestion would be to go with the least expensive one you find reliable because of the theft risk.
