long unscratched itch for a "j-frame" size 22WMR rimfire DA revolver
NOT a snubby, preferably not DAO (although could live with that), and prefer 3" or 4" barrel
(but NOT a ~2" snubby)
don't care if "airweight" or all steel weight, non-factor

#1 critical criteria = good DA trigger
a good single action trigger doesn't really count for much, might just as well buy a single action revolver for that
shooting DA is all about the DA trigger

#1 criteria means the Taurus 941 is a non-starter, a real shame (otherwise excellent "vision" of what I would like)
Example minimum acceptable DA trigger would be a S&W 650 (3") or S&W 651 (4") in 22WMR, "kit guns", but would prefer a tad better trigger
I say that because I have the older S&W model 63 kit gun 4" barrel in 22LR, hence know what that feels like
also know what k-frame triggers are (ideal for me) because I own eight of those, my basic std of comparison for DA triggers
the j-frame kit gun triggers are quite a lot stiffer(but not terrible), very characteristic of S&W J vs K rimfires
oddly enough, my j-frame snubbie 38sp S&W model 60 has significantly better DA trigger than the j-frame kit guns
The newer model S&W PD351 would probably be a winner for me with a tad more barrel, but apparently 'tis not to be
Charter Arms, I hear some not so great things about them, but don't really know (the Charter "name" changes hands so often)

so... any suggestions ?
Any feedback on trigger of model X,Y,Z vs. other make/model would be greatly appreciated !

am I going to have to cough up ~$500 for another S&W kit gun, or just keep on waiting ??
I know triggers smooth up with use, but they ALL smooth up with use, and if they start out life already better, well...

PS
no advice required re: the too feeble 22 WMR rimfire and/or the loud/fireball 22WMR, thanks
yes, been shooting guns for half a century now
yes, own various other calibers up through 357 (including S&W 48 and Automag II and Hi-Standard Double 9 w/ both cylinders, as 22WMR examples)

thanks

I've been looking for 20 years for an S&W 650 to no avail. I found a 651 15 years ago, but foolishly traded it away. I don't like the later stuff.

if the Gunbroker thing doesn't work out for you (or if I decide to outbid you on that 650), PM me
I do know where a nice 650 is (but it will cost ~$600 w/ shipping & FFL transfer)
I bought my S&W model 63 "mint" from the same folks a couple years ago
They are trustworthy and reputable people, but not the least bit shy about pricing their stuff on up there.. took me a few months to convince my wallet I wanted that 63 that bad, but I did

6 bills too stiff for me :(
(and that gunbroker 651 is flat out a "no go" for me)

Geez, I sold my 651 for less than half that years ago. :(

It's going to be hard to find a gun that meets the OP description.

likely could, it's been done to Bearcats, but with barrel rework to 223 and all, plus price of SP101 in 22LR (also hard found) pretty pricey all told
(and then would wish for a Gemini trigger job to go with, alas)

I might just have to eventually talk myself into a S&W snubbie

(a fine suggestion, nonetheless, love our SP101 in 38+P)

yup
figgered if anybody could name something, it would be THR guys, though
this stuff can be found... if price is no object.. which is why I ain't already got one of course !

shameless bump of too old thread, excuse being an update

some say ol' Grizz be the tuffest bear in the woods but they just never had a woobie bear chew on 'em, that's all

so.. finally done it

old model 4" S&W 63 now has 4" S&W 651 for company in the gun safe
seller said "LNIB", could have just said "NIB" (picked it up today)
paid.. too much.. don't care
life is too short to shoot cheap guns or drink cheap whiskey, you just never know when it's going to be your last shot

63 smooths up real nice with a few thousand rounds sent downrange, so will 651
beats every other small frame DA rimfire revolver in my hand 1st shot out of the box anyway
woobie bear beware :D

PS
for picture credits, better done than I could post

Good on you!:):)

Congrats, oldfool! I don't remember the last time I saw a 651 in the flesh.

Three or four years back I walked into my friendly funshop and the manager was grinnin' at me. He reached under the counter and pulled out an UNFIRED Model 51! It was the first M51 I'd seen since 1975. No box, no papers and for $350 it was mine! I fixed the unfired part later that afternoon.
