All you are gonna get is a jumble of opinions. That is if everybody is not sick and tired of these best oil questions yet. There have been several in just the past few weeks. Probably dozens, maybe hundreds, in the past few years.

Don't use salt water. Or salt-water taffy. The taffy stays put if you chew it a little, but it doesn't lube worth beans. And don't use beans, refried or not. :banghead:
I've used Rem-Oil, ATF, power steering fluid, whatever-motor-oil-I-have-in-the-garage/truck/house, 0w20 Mobil 1 synthetic, oil from the truck's dipstick, hoppes, outers, and a whole lot of others that I've forgotten when it comes to oil. I've used about as many different types of greases. I know people who have used vegetable oils, bacon grease, whale oil (great grandpa.
), and one guy in another thread used the oil from his nose/forehead. Find what you like and and most of them will work well enough.

This stuff. Amazing. Made me change my routine. It's a dry lube that gives rust protection better than many other dry lubes formulated specifically for corrosion protection, and yet it reduces friction better than most wet lubes. See reviews here:

I would mix wd40 with equal parts of mobile 1 and atf.
Seriously goto midway or wherever you do business and buy the color of bottle you like and most esp go by the smell the wife prefers. All the testing in the world wont beat that.

Royal purply motor oil, very good and dirt cheap for gun oil. But that really expensive frog oil is probably the best .

I have used many, many lubes. There are only two that spring to mind that I don't like or trust completely. Frog Lube and Ballistol. Frog Lube worked OK, I guess as advertised but when applied as instructed it's not a very good rust preventative, at least in my wet area, and it's a very light lubricant. Ballistol is not a good rust preventative at all, plus it gums up when applied as instructed. Gums up and balls up. Bought and used each container and had zero desire to repeat.
In reality I use a variety of lubricants, sometimes on different locations on the same gun. I even use some silicone lubes on moving plastic parts. I use synthetic grease when grease is called for. For older blued guns than tend to be stored, I have moved over to WD Specialist for larger open areas and Corrosion X for smaller internal areas. My safe I use holds at 40-45% RH, sometimes in the summer spiking to 47%. I do spritz the safe (optics sealed elsewhere) with Remoil with VCI.
I have no lube issues.

I use white lithium grease from auto zone on moving parts (like the BCG and trigger springs in an AR) and cheap motor oil on external surfaces as a rust barrier.
I bought a gallon of Break Free CLP for $12, from a surplus store that was going out of business, a decade or so ago. It's about half gone. I have a tube of Lubriplate, that'a older than that. I use it where it seems like grease is a good idea. There's about a quarter of it left. I use Dillon Snake Oil on stainless hand guns.

Been using the motor oil that I drain from the bottles after changing oil in my vehicles. Mobil 1, and it works great wherever I need oil on any of my firearms. Essentially free, too.

I've been thru Remoil, CLP and others thru the years and have settled on WeaponShield. It is on and in all my guns. BTW WD40 is a Water Displacement spray of which the 40th formula is what is in the can, hence Water Displacement Formula 40.

I have used nearly every gun oil you can pick up off the shelf at gun stores and from the auto section of big box stores. The grandfather of an ex-fiancee gave me a few cans of G96 spray. Smells great, cleans great, and lubes great. The only issue I ever have is finding the stuff as some places will carry it for awhile then stop. I keep Rem Oil, Hoppes Elite, and real military CLP on hand for when I run out of G96.

I use a varity of household products on my guns,and have used a lot of unconvential stuff for case lube too..Suntan oil (not lotion) is a good lube,and external cleaner .
Dexron is the cheapest thing I use - it actually works extremely well. It's inexpensive and you can get it at any gas station. Dump out your Remoil bottle and put Dexron in it. The internals of a handgun are nothing compared to the stresses of an automatic transmission. It also cuts carbon real well. If money is no object I still trust Mil spec CLP from Breakfree or Royco. G 96 is the only lube available commercially that meets the current Mil specs for small arms CLP. Safariland now owns Breakfree and their CLP did not meet the spec. - but I would still use it.
