good gun to carry at work

The Kel-Tec firearms are outstanding pocket pistols..

.7 wide (that's less than 3/4"), about 10 oz. loaded, in either .32 ACP or .380. In a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster you will literally forget it's there.

Depending on your budget, I would go with a Kahr PM9, an airweight S&W Model 38, 638, 442, or 642, or a Kel-Tec P3AT.

I own a PM9, a 642, and the P3AT. I feel well-armed with the PM9 and a spare magazine or two stoked w/127-gr SXTs, even as my sole armament. It replaced my PPK and 642 for pocket carry, and I always carry it on the street. I felt O.K. when toting the 642 and a couple of Bianchi Speed-strips, but if in a protracted gunfight, I would be wishing for a bigger gun. (No such reservations when carrying my PM9.) My P3AT is my lounging around the house in my sweats gun.

The Rorbaugh is a nice pistola, but pricey and hard to find. If you have the money, go for it, but get one with sights - Novaks, if possible. It's hard to hit people past 7 yards without them, esp. if they are behind cover.

The best pocket holsters are from Milt Sparks, Alessi, and Kramer. I use a Kramer for the 642 and (after trying my buddy's) have a Sparks holster on order for the PM9 to replace/augment my current PCS holster. I use Kel-Tec's clip for my P3AT.

Whatver you do, get a pocket magazine pouch to carry a spare magazine (or two) in your support side pocket or devise some stealthy way to carry a spare magazine on your belt. Always carry at least one spare magazine, a knife, and a flashlight.

Regards,
Andy

Don't go smaller than a 38 special snub or a 380 auto. I personally had no problem concealing a 442 smith in a pocket holster on uc assignements.

A Glock 27 in a Galco Glove Ankle Holster works for me!! or my Walther in a Donner Gun Leather IWB if I am wearing a jacket or sweater.

I work in sales at an airport: meeting with clients/associates, climbing into and out of airplanes, sitting at a desk.

If I'm not wearing a jacket, I'll carry a Glock 30 in a Comp-Tac CTAC with my shirt tucked over it. If I can wear a jacket/blazer or sweater I'll carry a 1911 in a leather IWB (VM II).

I just can't imagine why people think they need to carry a mouse gun in order to remain discreet! These big .45s conceal fine on me as long as I am just a little bit careful (let the customer go up the steps into the plane first so my holster isn't jutting out right at eye level, things like that).

You may be able to carry more gun than you think you can. Try it and see.

Those G27s in the Galco ankle glove thing work really well too.

Good luck.

Carry Gun @ Work

For good stopping power and good concealment, go with a Para Ordnance Warthog in .45 (10 rounds), using a Galco SkyOps concealment holster. The holster allows you to carry inside the waistband and still be able to tuck in a dress shirt if you're in a shirt & tie type of work environment.

what the heck are you thinking- I believe in carrying a firearm, but if the troops get wind of this and start carrying:scrutiny: - you opened a can'o'worms.

You may be right but there is irony in this argument. It is the same argument that the "elite classes" use to justify limiting or denying the right of the "people" (you and I) to bear arms. It is the argument of the anti's against all the huddled masses bearing arms. It is the argument of the original anti-gun laws designed to keep Blacks from arming themselves. We either have the right to bear arms...or we don't. If we do, then the "can'o'worms" should be open. Where are the limits to be set if there are to be limits? Who decides, and why does the one deciding have a different standard personally than the one imposed on those lower in the hierarchy? If it is just about who has the power to impose the rules, then we have an example of just why the right to keep and bear arms was acknowledged in the first place: as a counter-balance to the tyranny of the rule of power over the rule of reason. If the manager has the right to carry, then why not the janitor? Just wonderin'...

I haven't found a tiny auto that I would consider reliable enough for self defense. The smallest auto I would carry for SD is a Bersa or a Kahr MK-9. A S&W snubbie can be lighter but they are not as flat as an auto.

Stay away from the tiny autos unless you know a lot about guns and can make them work. Kel-Tecs are very problem prone.
