I currently have a marlen 2000L target rifle, but I am at the point were I would like a better rifle (better stock and barrel ,mostly) I am 16 and shooting about quarter size groups prone, kneeling, and sitting as well as about 4 inch groups off hand. I shoot AA class international rifle. I am looking for a very good target rifle with adjustable, but plate, cheek peace, drop at comb, trigger and so on and so forth, as well the thing has to shoot 1 hole groups at atleast 50 preferably out to 100. I have been looking at anchutz (the 1907 with the 1913 stock) but do not realy want to drop 2500$ on a rifle (my father does not pay for my guns any more.) What do you guys think would be a good rifle for my needs?

Anschutz, and to a lesser degree, Walther and Feinwerkbau seem to own the international smallbore competition. Your best chance at one without dropping a lot of money would be to check with Champion and other target oriented suppliers, or check with your state competition sanctioning body to see what used rigs might be for sale. Shooters get old, tired or find new interests and you can pick up rifles, scopes and other equipment reasonably if you are in the right place at the right time. Current exchange rates are tough on both the supply and demand sides.

You could also check out Russian equipment. The EAA Ural seemed to show promise, but I don't know how they did in the higher levels of competition where even the Anschutz barrels weren't good enough (no admission without Lilja or other aftermarket tube). Not imported by EAA anymore, apparently, but bound to be a few in the pipeline and perhaps picked up by other importers. There may be other Russian makes worth considering such as Toz or Tula, but they aren't widely advertised.

There's a lot of good old equipment out there and shooter numbers are down, so should be some good stuff out there.

As far as used stuff, where i live in CA there is NOTHING as far as high end target shooting, at the club i belong to there are nearly 3000 members only one of which has a good positions rifle, thanks for the advice though i will check out some of thoes manufacturures

Hi. You need to decide how much money you want to spend. You can spend 4 grand Canadian on an Anschutz. They start at $540Cdn. Neither comes with sights either.
Sako makes a target grade .22 as well. http://www.gunshopfinder.com/sako/trg22.asp
"...there is NOTHING as far as high end target shooting..." Contact the NRA for where to go. Assuming you have transportation. Go here first. http://www.nrahq.org/shootingrange/findlocal.asp?State=CA
Upper body toning exercises can improve your off hand groups. Free weights or gallon jugs of water. A gallon of water weighs 10 pounds. Any gallon jug will do. Lots of lifting and holding the jug at arm's length will strengthen your arms, back and shoulders.
What ammo are you using? Target grade ammo, lots more expensive and not always easy to find, can drop group sizes.

I am shooting wolfs 22 target ammo for practice and the match extra for matches (The small ones for fun at the gun club.) I know what is going on with all the ranges within about an hours drive and there is nothing as far as competative level target shooting. There is not much in the way of higher level matches.

there may be specialized clubs that only engage in position shooting. When I started shooting bullseye in Mass, I thought I knew where all the clubs were. Boy was I wrong!

The east coast has alot of target shooting clubs, there used to be one in san fransisco but it was shut down by the city. No there is realy no one i can share a rifle with.

You might want to consider a CZ 452. They have good accuracy out of the box and with a $10 trigger kit can be made to shoot great. Plus, they won't break the bank to purchase.

can't afford a cooper/anschutz/walther/feinwerkbau...

First of all, good shooting - keep up the good work! I'm not much of an expert at all in this are, but I'd pitch in a couple of possible suggestions:

1. First, re-ask your question here: www.rimfirecentral.com or one of the other rimfire-specific forums.

2. CDNN has some nice deals on Anchutzes sometimes. http://www.cdnninvestments.com/dowournewcat.html . But they don't all have the adjustable stock you're looking for. However, you could get one then add the stock you want afterwards.

3. Similarly, if you're looking mainly for a better barrel and stock, then can you just get a different stock and barrel for your current action, much cheaper than a new rifle? Does anyone make these aftermarket parts for your 2000? If so, you'll likely need a good gunsmith to mate the barrel. The stock is something you can swap out yourself in all likelihood. Check here to start with: http://www.rifle-stocks.com/

4. If # 3 fails, then for an economy shooter, I'd look at a CZ452 or a Sako Finnfire (not AS economy as the CZ). Probably the Sako since it would be more likely to have the aftermarket parts you need, since Europeans are nuts about their rimfire matches. Yes, CZ is made in Europe too, but I wouldn't think they'd have the same level of aftermarket stuff (stocks, etc.) as the Sako. Also, you might check gun shows and pawn shops for old Winchester 52s - those things are shooters, as are some old Remingtons, and some come with nice target sights - BUT probably not with the stock type you're wanting.

5. EAA used to import some nice quality economy Izhmash target rifles from Russia with the target stocks, sights, the whole 9 yards, but their new importer (Rem) doesn't choose to import all of them. You might call remington and ask them. EAA still imports the Ishmash airguns, but no firearms - I believe Rem has the rights to those. Man, I may start to dislike Remington if they prevent the importation of some of the excellent Izhmash guns. They are currently importing & selling some other rifles & shotguns under their "Spartan" line which EAA used to import, but these are Baikals, not Ishmashs.

Let me clarify about the rifle I (i couldn't find any pics) It is a target rifle with a set of williams target apatures adjustable but plate for leinth of pull and drop at comb, it has a bull barrel and target trigger.(jest under a pound) That is what I am looking to upgrade. Thanks for the link to the rimfire site I will check it out

Cheap target rifle

First off, good shooting--keep it up!

Last time I went to the CMP site to drool they had a bunch of what seemed from the description to be VERY nice .22 target rifles in IIRC the $600 range. Don't know if it'd be what you're looking for but worthy of checking out. Website: www.odcmp.com

They're Kimber target rifles that the Army ordered but never used. Our tax dollars at work. We might as well get some use out of the tax dollars, in your hands.

I have shot the kimbers and all the other CMP rifles for that matter, the kimber is nice, but it has a prone stock and was set up as a prone rifle and not a position rifle
