Got pulled over while carrying and...

Patrol cars, at least around here, don't do radar while moving. They may turn around and follow someone who they see going fast, but if you apply your brakes before they can either pace you or get a reading, they have nothing to go on.
Mike The Wolf, sorry to tell you this, but most police radars do not have "same way" speed detection. It cost more money to get that in a unit. That seems stupid(trust me) I know. But ALL in car mounted radars have opposite way detection. Those cars that turn around and follow you may not have radar at all, they KNOW you are speeding but don't want to risk you fighting it in court. I know officers with radar that won't write more tickets because they don't want to go to court.

I'm a Trooper and I have no problem with someone being armed as long as A) their hands are visible and on the steering wheel and B) they have common sense..namely they are not rummaging under their seat or in the glove box as I'm making my approach with the intention of holding it up and saying, "Just want to let you know I have this".
Keep your hands in sight, don't act squirrelly and I won't get bent out of shape. I cant speak for other officers or Troopers but personally, I'm all about law-abiding citizens being armed and if they end up in a confrontation where a BG gets put down and they are in the clear..I will be the first one to pat them on the back and say, "Good job".

Also, yes we can obtain speeds of vehicles coming from the opposite direction. The model I have in my patrol car is a Golden Eagle II and it has that feature though I have to say the thing just collects dust. I much rather use my LIDAR set, which is much more pinpoint and accurate.

EDITED TO ADD: To the OP: Thank you for the way you handled your stop and understanding that its not personal. In my book, if you are over a certain speed you get a citation, regardless of whether you are an a-hole or very pleasant...BUT if you were pleasant, like it sounds you were..I will go out of my way to explain the procedures to go for probation, taking a drivers improvement course, etc. I also have the option of whether I want to cite you for the highest speed in the tracking history or the lowest. Depending on the speed you were going that could be the difference between a 1, 2, or 5pt citation.

Small town cops are bad about sloppy/crooked speeding violations (google New Rome, Ohio where I used to drive every day).
Eww, that place was legendary . . . I used to live on the west side of Columbus. You were lucky to get pulled over by the Highway Patrol; Ohio's is considered one of the most professional in the country, and I've also experienced this. I've also found that they'll give you a break if you're polite. They don't like paperwork any more than the rest of us; they just want to keep the roads safe.

As far as I know, all police vehicles around here are only using handheld units that are cheaper and can be moved from unit to unit.
I see what you are saying now. My department has 13 patrol cars split betweem 28 officers and of the 13 only 4 have in car radar. As MD1775 said, those mostly collect dust. The car I am asigned to has the in car radar but I check out a hand held radar everynight. They are more accurate and are calibrated every month, unlike our in-cars.

To the OP:

Why not consider writing a letter to the head of the patrol to shine some light on an officer that conducted himself in a professional manner. I amsure he gets plent of complaints from citizens who lask the character you have displayed. It would be a nice gesture to the officer who was respectful to you.

My friend was stopped here in N/W Oh. shortly after getting his concealed carry permit by the OHP back when the law was "in plain sight" in a vehicle. He handed the leo both licenses, the trooper asked if it was loaded pointing the the saa 45 LC on the console.Mike replied yes sir,the trooper said good and issued a verbal warning for a break light out.
