I like it. Well, the sights aren't my favorites, but the overall profile reminds me in many ways of my 4" Service-Six with large Pachmayr Presentations on it.

No, I hadn't seen it until this thread. I am super impressed. Not so much with the half-lug feature, but more with the grips and the frame and barrel profile enhancements. The top of the frame has been sculptured to resemble more the profile of a Smith & Wesson, sorry for the comparison. Anyway, I like it!:)

Looks like a beefed up Security Six without the adjustable sight. I've been on the lookout for another cheap Security Six but with this puppy right here. If it can be got for under $600, I may get one next Black Friday.

I own a half-lug 6" version and I like the half-lug versions better than the full-lug. I've shot both types and I still prefer by half-lug. I get the extra weight helps with recoil but the half-lug is more pleasant to shoot all-around in my opinion. I'm glad I didn't get a SP101 4" (already own the 2.25" and 3 1/16"). I'll save my cash for one of these.

I'm just convinced God doesn't want me to have another 1911 ever again with all these fine Ruger revolvers out there.

Wow. I never thought they would produce another half-lug barreled GP100. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the only GP100s with 4" bbl and half-lug from the past were .38spl models. I don't think they made a 4" half lug in .357mag, so this could be new territory. I really really like it, especially with the new sights. Would be nice and easy to swap out for night sights, and I'd bet that with less forward weight, it balances for very fast handling.

"Looks like a beefed up Security Six without the adjustable sight."

You've just described a Service-Six made after 1979 with what Ruger called the 4" bull barrel.

I can't believe I saved the brown cardboard endflap, but not the box. Boxes were still just targets to me in 1985.

4" BULL BBL."

The second post in a Ruger Forum thread has a pic of the Heavy Barrel - the gun on the right.

Very nice but according to the Ruger website it comes with rubber grips and not the wood. They are different models at least.

Features:

Recoil-reducing, cushioned, black rubber Hogue® Monogrip® provides non-slip, comfortable grip. (model 1754 features a Hogue® hardwood grip with stippled sides.)

Not bad, But I like the feel and balance of my security six and speed six much better. They are keepers.

They are shipping.

They are not the first half-lugged fixed-sight 4-inch .357 GP, my first one (still here) was acquired in '88.
Ruger recently built a batch using leftover frames.
There were others in between.

They do ship with the wood shown, you're mis-reading the website.
The wood is a good fit in my medium-sized hand, but not quite as comfortable as other styles under heavy recoil with Buffalo Bore hot 125s. :)

Very nice. The Novak-esque rear sight should be stout, but I am not a fan of the way the "hi-viz" fiber optic sights look (or snag on my clothes). Other than my "sight pickyness", that is one nice looking Ruger!

Now we need the same with a five inch barrel, regular adjustable rear sight, and a switch out front sight with black serrated ramp, fiber optic, and gold bead as standard equipment.
