I have been slowly putting together my Ruger American 7.62x39 and finally had it out for an extended session today with my son. We put a Leupold 1.5x5 on it and headed out to sight it in. We were shooting Golden Tiger and had good results. We did not have our full set up, so we sighted in at 50 yards using a paint spot on a board. We were pleased to have nice little clusters at 50 yards, so we then spent the remainder of the day just plinking and having fun. We will work on refining the zero next weekend.
I can say that so far this rifle has exceeded all of my expectations. I have owned two CZ 527's (one in 7.62x39 and one in .223) and this rifle is definitely more accurate than the CZ 7.62x39. I am not knocking the CZ's or trying to compare quality, I realize that the CZ is a whole different rifle, but this little Ruger is just as handy, doesn't have the whole backwards safety thing of the CZ, and is more accurate. I also prefer the Mini-30 magazines and like to able to use ten rounders.
Both the five and ten round magazines performed flawlessly and are very easy to load. I also put a A2 flash hider on to protect the crown while riding in the truck and a Hill People Gear butt cuff. This rifle will replace a couple of my .30-30's that have served a similar role, but are becoming more valuable or at least harder to replace.
I did take some basic pics, but will try to get some better ones next weekend.
