I usually shoot two or three big ones a year on the homestead. Shot a big one a few days ago. Must've been a momma because there was five babies in the yard today.

A pic of this rifle with the beaver triggered some purists on Facebook. Guess they never had to shoot anything after dark. Laser is just for kicks.

Nice! I enjoy pest control with my CZ 17HMR, when I have a suitable angle and backstop. I call it the zipper, it really opens them up.

I've done a good bit with the .17 and .22Mag. The Bergara .22Mag has been doing a good job the last couple years but it's a little long and heavy for fast work. Been wanting a good semi-auto .22Mag and have an AR upper coming today. It'll be interesting.

Work out the pistols too!

The original "tactical" 10/22 build and a big one that was 10ft up in a mulberry tree. Still has leaves in his mouth. Interestingly, same light and laser as the black one wears now. The green one now has a Streamlight HLX and a Vortex 3x prism.

Those 10/22's look very well setup for the task at hand. I have a backpacker 10/22 that gets the nod for quiet suppressed feral cat control.

Thanks! When I moved to middle of nowhere Tennessee and got a new batch of chickens, I had to really up my game on the varmint control. Most of which happened after dark. I was constantly dealing with coons, possums, skunks, foxes, coyotes, feral cats and stray dogs. Got tired of trying to hold a flashlight and a traditional rifle, so I set out to put together something more specialized for the task. I took a stainless 10/22 carbine had I'd had for years and put it in a Tapco stock, which I still think is one of the best of its kind. Before you could buy an integrated peep sight/pic rail, I made this. I got a screw-cutting lathe, a milling fixture and milled out the extension of a VQ picatinny rail. Mounted it backwards to cantilever over the Tech Sights rear sight. Had to drill and tap some extra holes but it looks like I bought it that way. Started out with a 30mm Millett 1-4x. Had to add a rail to the stock at the 3:00 position and mounted a light. Finished everything in OD green Alumahyde.

That overweight scope soon morphed into a red dot and now a prism. Also ditched the original 18.5" barrel for a 16.5" threaded version.

That's one thing I miss about living back east, woodchuck hunting in the spring and summer.

I've never eaten them, but we did hunt a farm in CT where the owner wanted any that were head shots so she could eat them.

Good way to put to use carcasses is a 55 gallon drum, with a bit of water in it, set it out in the sun loosely covered, let nature take its course on decomposition. What's left is a very potent bouquet for trappers to use as lure on their sets.

Sell it by the pint for good money.

Nothing calls predators like the smell of death.

As it turns out, it makes a great utility/general purpose rifle. The black one's a little lighter with the SBX barrel but I'm thinking about a 3rd that's a more precision build with a KIDD barrel.

I have an SBX barrel on my takedown backpacker. It’s nice, but would like a full chassis with a 16” barrel. Would be nice to throw a Sightmark mini Wraith and an infrared light on there.

PSA has the mini wraith with extra battery on sale right now for $480.

That's part of the plan for one of mine. I picked up the mini Wraith a couple years ago, used at the local shop. Never really properly wrung it out but what I have seen, I really like.

Last night I swapped the PRS stock for a CTR. It was just too heavy and I don't like the fixed LOP. It has a mid-weight KIDD barrel so it shouldn't be too heavy.

IMHO a nice wood Ruger #1B in .22-250 is proly the ideal centerfire chuckster.

After memorial day, when all the babies are on their own i will be breaking out the Savage 223 24” heavy barrel with 40x scope and 55gr Nosler. Close work is a Savage Mark II heavy barrel with Pro Varmint stock and 18x scope shooting stingers.
