Are there any clothing or equipment-related signs that show a person is totally clueless with regard to guns, or is just trying too hard?

Oh, I'd think trying to carry concealed in a speedo or bikini would be a good indicator. Of course if she's a good looking lass, I could forgive the bikini

Tons....but as in most things fashion, much comes down to taste. I used to like wearing BDU pants at the range, because they have lots of pockets and allow greater freedom of movement than jeans while still being sturdy enough for kneeling, laying down, walking in brush, etc., but these days they've become a hallmark of the poseur "Mall-ninja" crowd.

Also, big dark trenchcoats are a sure sign of movie-hero wannabes, as they serve no practical purpose at the range unless you're shooting in a sandstorm or monsoon.....although i DID used to have a trenchcoat i kept in the car that i occasionally used as a shooting blanket for shooting prone.

More important to watch for is large groups of people the same age, groups with video cameras in conjunction with military-style guns, or any utterance of the phrase, "Hey, watch THIS..."

I could care less what anyone wears, or what they think of what I am wearing. They make 13 year old girls for that.

wearing Thunderwear on the outside.

Subconsciously touching your firearm every 30 seconds.

The "I've got a giant rock in my pocket" guy.

Photographer vests with no camera in sight.

The guy is a little too aware. He waits to pay for his groceries in a interview stance and performs a perfect 3 point stance while drawing his wallet.

And as mentioned, the fanny pack. Big enough to hold a dinner plate.

Lessee:
  • CZ USA hat
  • CZ beltbuckle
  • CZ zombie/skull/whatever shirt with a hole in center
  • vest
  • and last, but certainly not least, what appears to be some holster leather just slightly peeking out on your right side (gotta blow up image)

Did I get it? And are you carrying a CZ? :neener:

I've got pic on my phone and can't get it on the computer, but it is a revolver holster (IWB) with a revolver and a magazine pouch. :)

J-hooks on a brown belt with a shirt tucked in will give it away, but probably only to someone that knew what they were to begin with.

The vest, the CZ-USA hat, and the belt buckle. All dead giveaways.

The only gun shirt I wear regularly is this one. I don't like to advertise.

Wow!

All the signs in one wardrobe selection!

You're just missing the tattoo to round it out.:D

Seeing as how I open carry a lot...I'm a pretty big dead give away.

When I do conceal carry I don't do it with tactical pants, gun clothing, fanny packs, or vests.

I do like trench coats though. It rarely gets cold enough for them though. They also double as a blanket if need be.

Its not easy to make it work all the time. Keep it hidden while keeping it accessable. Tough. Not looking "gunny" is the extra step.
