Looks like one of the old Mossberg or Marlin BA shotguns. Altough on 2nd look that patch on the side of the stock looks like there may have been a mag side feed/cut of like on a Krag or early Mauser. But the action doesn't look like either.

Kinda looks like an old Savage, maybe a 58-variant.. I just can't get that plate on the side.

I'm thinking the plate on the side there is some sort of presentation plaque. Maybe this shotgun was a rare prototype, designed by someone famous (like John Moses Browning perhaps? North American connection?), and submitted to FN (European connection?).

It was in a museum. I believe the plaque was a dedication or something. It's not a one off gun.

Maybe, but looks more like post-war manufacture to me. Maybe it's Ingvar Kamprad (IKEA's founder), or Anton Glock's first shotgun?

The wall switches are "Decora" style or immitators. They are European inspired, but available - and frequently installed - in the United States. They COULD be European, but the styling is not dispositive as to the location.

Whatever it is, it exhibits some very nice machining work, beautifully polished.

It is a cheap shotgun. Birch stock, very simple bolt action similar to JC Higgins, Mossberg, I even have a .410 from JC Pennys (single shot) that is very similar.
A rope gun perhaps. Many rope guns were based on shotguns.
