Do you ever show your CCW when asked for photo ID?

A note: The hotel I work for is the hotel located closest to Leupold Stevens. While we ARE in Beaverton Oregon it isn't uncommon for there to be big debates about the merits of various rifles, optics, targets, ammo, etc going on in our lobby.

There was only one instance where I pulled out my CCW permit that it wasn't needed(ie renewal), and it was to show an odd "rule" on the bottom to a police friend of mine from a neighboring county. Other than that it stays in the wallet.

Yes, sometimes.

Many times the reaction is,
"I've been wanting to get my Concealed Carry License but I don't know where to start"

Other times it leads to someone new getting into shooting (at my range).

Just this morning a lady rancher was at my place to learn to shoot semi auto handguns because she heard of me at the local gun store.

There have been tellers from my bank come out to shoot after learning I was "into guns" after me using my CHL as ID.

It is usually my second form of photo ID if two are required.
DL, CCW (HCP), Passport, TWIC, DC Water Contractor ID, and TVA Contractor ID. Take your pick.

Jim

I would be happy to learn our CHL now stands on its own when not driving.

Doubtful, even though it is linked and has our DL # there....

I renewed back in February/March (?) I sent them in my current passport photos and they still used my current DL picture... Where I look like some deranged lunatic, stemming from a 300deg 100% humidity August day on my motorcycle..

I have. If you lose (as in misplace) your driver's license in Massachusetts the RMV allows you to use your Mass. LTC as ID to get a new driver's license.

I showed mine in a bank once when they wanted 2 ID's, I thought it shouted that I was carrying (which I was) but the lady never blinked.

In the 90s I lost my Florida DL and I presented the DMV with my FL CCW (has photo) and a zerox of my DL and social security card (useful back in the days of Kitchen Table FFLs--
I bought most my my guns from my mailman at his house). They were accepting utility bills from others but I got 20 questions.

One of the questions was "Where did you get your ID?"
Me: "California" (my first DL)
Her: "No."
Me: "Well, I grew up in Michigan . . ." (Until 13)
Her: "Getting closer . . ."
Me: "Uh, I was born in New Jersey" (a fact I rarely admit ;) )
Her: "That's it."
Me: "I moved when I was 3 . . ."

Some people don't appreciate the non-felon, non-violent misdemeanor card!

Mike

I work in a Hotel, and one of our standard check-in items is to check the room name vs a photo ID. We aren't picky, if it has a photo and your name on it we'll take it. (So your costco Amex works just fine.)

Yesterday a guest showed his Georgia state CCW, which prompted a long discussion about the bizarre laws and wait times on getting a CCW, as well as a discussion about open vs concealed, and why Alaska is just better than virtually any other state. :p

However, in a decade of working hospitality, this is the first time someone's shown a CCW as photo ID. (I suspect he showed it for "shock value" Sorry, not only am I gun friendly, but I make sure my hotel is as well. :)

FYI: There is no such thing as a GA CCW. There is no requirement to conceal in GA, and the word "concealed' does not appear anywhere on the license. ;)

It is currently a Georgia Weapons Carry License. Before that it was a Georgia Weapons License, and before that it was a Georgia Firearms License.

No, I do not choose to show it, I show my driver license or perhaps a regular old state issue photo ID.

I don't, on account of there not being a picture of my ugly mug on mine. I did accidentally hand it to a librarian once... the county I first got my permit in printed them on really chintzy semi-laminated paper that attracted goop and got sticky... I passed my library card to the lady at the desk and my permit was stuck to the back. That was a little embarassing.

I did once at the post office when the guy insisted on two forms of ID. He didn't ask me if I was carrying.

It's a good thing he didn't...extremely gray area there...possibly illegal...probably going to be considered illegal by a lot of folks in LE.

I did once by accident at the BWI TSA checkpoint. He looked at me funny but didn't say anything. I didn't realize until putting it back in my wallet.

I generally don't, but I have on a very few occasions. Once when I inadvertently left my DL in the car which was literally parked a mile away, and on the few occasions when I've been asked for two government issued IDs.

No photo on an Indiana permit. Ours are pink paper about the thickness of a credit card receipt.

I'd complain about how cheap they are...but they are cheap. ;)

I wasn't sure what to make of it when I first got one. I was like...are they serious? Cut out this square of paper, lamination recommended? Really?

But the price is right, and the carry laws are probably top 5 nationally.

Why would it be a good thing he didn't? I wasn't carrying and why would you assume I don't know the law? Turns out he shot too and every time after that we would chat about guns when I was at his counter.

My bad on the incorrect assumption, then.

I suppose I should have asked if you were.

But the law is a gray area, it may or may not be illegal (in states that don't make it illegal by state law).

Last I looked into it, anyway.

I believe that phrase 'other lawful purpose' is the crux of the matter, no?

Here in the "land of Dumbo", we are required to have our FOID in our possession to even handle a gun and/or ammo. That being said, it is not one of the ID's I use and is buried under something else. Problem is, part of my vehicle's license plate reads "NRA" so it's somewhat obvious. ;)

The Alabama one is not laminated, has no photo and is just a little piece of paper. So no.

Actually, it varies by county. Mine is from Lee County and is made of the same material as a DL, and actually might be a bit thicker. It has my photo and a number, not my DL#. I keep it behind my license and in the past have had a cashier notice it when I produced my license (also had LE notice when I produced it for work as I often have to file police reports which require me to provide ID as a witness or complainant on behalf of my company. It's never caused a problem as I can't carry at work.

No I keep it to myself, and as others have said in my state I am required to have my DL and my CHCL on me if I am carrying so I just show the DL.

When I first got my CHCL I wasn't thinking and slipped into my wallet where I normally keep a debit card. We went out to dinner and when it was time to pay I accidentally pulled out my CHCL. I noticed before they did and got my debit card out. My wife laughed, and jokingly accused me of trying to scare them into giving us a free meal.
