Do you ever show your CCW when asked for photo ID?

I believe that phrase 'other lawful purpose' is the crux of the matter, no?
IANAL. As far as I understand it is illegal to carry inside a post office, and that's why I hate going to my PO Box, LOL. I keep my pepper spray on me though. Just recently has it become legal to carry in the parking lot, but not inside the building.

no, i haven't used it for a ID, this a little off topic,......
but one time i ran into roadblock in ky, out in middle of knowwhere, i had been to my farm and had a gun halfway covered up next to my right leg. i had forgotton about it. a sherriff was on pass. side of truck and a state trooper came to window ask for ID. I pulled out the DL. and he seen the blue stipe accross the CWL. He turned around and went back to lisence plate and then i realized the gun beside my leg halfway covered up. i yelled out the window i had a gun beside my leg, his reply was i seen it, i told him i had my CWL , he said i seen it too, he came back and said have a safe day. , but in that area everybody has a gun. if that had been in a large town, they would have went a lot further . i also got pulled over in my small town once for a light out and when i told him i had a gun covering up my insurance card in glove box, he said don't worry about it, i told him i had my CWL.. i have heard in small towns if you have your CWL, most cops know you are not a felon and pose no risk, at least that has happen to me 2 times, in Lexington i am sure it would be different.. they probally would jerk you out of the car..

Wow I am kind of surprised might the idea that is would be to "show off" or that it might cause alarm. I have worked in banks all my life and we require 2 forms of ID. I have seen many people use a CCW as one of the 2 forms. I have never thought twice about it. Some people may only have 2 forms and one may be a CCW.

I find this to be a interesting tidbit. About 15 years ago I had just started with a bank and was still learning my customers. The CEO live very close to the branch I worked at. This was not a small community bank. It was a large regional bank. One of the top 20 largest in the country and had locations in over 30 states. I happened to work in the same town it was headquarter and close to the CEOs home. One day his wife came in. I had no idea who she was and asked for her ID just like anyone else. She showed me a CCW. I was very embarrassed I asked the CEO's wife for ID.

She was polite and laughed about it. We started talking about hunting after I saw the CCW permit. Now I don't think the wife of someone who made 7 figures and ran one of the largest banks in the country was showing off or stupid

Nope. My CO permit is very much like my CO drivers license, but the fact I have a CCW permit is my business, nobody else's. I don't need surprised looks or questions.

No, I haven’t.
I was behind some guy in line at security at the Tampa airport who tried to use his. The security lady told him it was not considered legal ID
and he would have to have something else. He tried to ask why but she never did give him an answer as far as I know. Go figure.

Only as a second ID when buying a gun. Virginia doesn't have a picture on it so it really doesn't matter anyway.

Other than buying a gun, I don't remember the last time anybody asked me for ID.

Funny Story...

Twice:

Once at the post office when asked for a second photo id when I opened a po box.

Second time at O'Hare Airport in Chicago :what: while checking in for a flight. I was in a rush and handed the clerk my CHL by mistake instead of my DL. She looked at me inquisitively and asked if I was carrying a gun, which, of course, I wasn't. I immediately realized I screwed up, took my CHL back and gave her my DL. I thought *for sure* I would be further detained between check-in and boarding for a secondary search, strip search, body cavity check, luggage search, etc. but nothing happened.

That's just plain silly.

So what...you are licensed to carry. Why would they care?

Plus if it's during check in that's an airline agent, not a TSA agent.

I've checked a handgun at O'hare more times than I can count, BTW. Never had any issues with it.

I used mine once when I had to provide a second ID. I was told that is not an approved government ID. They asked to see my SS card. I replied how can you tell the card I have is really mine. They got a blank look on my face. I then walked away. I forget where this happened....chris3

I used my CHL in lieu of a driver's license to fly from DFW to Pittsburgh (and back) a couple years ago. It wasn't intentional as I accidentally dropped my DL in the wife's car, but it worked for everything needed - it is a government issued photo ID, after all. I even got a positive comment from the TSA in PIT.

I had to present my CHP at the DMV in Colorado Springs when I renewed my DL because they wouldn’t accept my Colorado Driver’s License that they issued me as a valid ID.

Beyond that absolutely not.

No, unless it is by accident since the DL and HGP are similar. But one is a landscape format and the other portrait.

I typically use mine as a second ID when one is required. I also used it occasionally when purchasing age restricted products because until very recently I had a vertical (underage) driver's license- I didn't both getting it changed when I turned 21. My permit is horizontal- so there was a lot less confusion from discount store cashiers. (I don't believe that they really read it)

I also used it as ID when my DL (cash, credit/debit cards/ gift cards, watch, ) got stolen out of my locker at the gym. At the time, I happened to have secured my permit in the car. I presented it to the responding officer when he asked if I happened to have any other ID and carried that as ID until the next morning when I used it to assist in obtaining a replacement DL.

When buying beer at the grocery store. "Here's my guaranteed to be over 21 ID since you can't even get one if you're younger than that.", is almost always met with a chuckle around here.

Otherwise, nope.
